I got to admit I haven't watched many games this year so maybe things have changed .

Whats his value and can anyone give me an up dated overall view on him as a player. Is he a top pairing guy?

I like our new found defence since we added Ekholm but need 1 more RD to pair with Nurse.

I mean he’s been serviceable on a very weak lineup. Always hard to get a true read on a guy like that when the team is a bottom feeder.

Honestly? I think they should try to land Orlov as a UFA instead. Assuming they can somehow afford him.

That would be an amazing addition to their d-corps.

He’s a solid mid pair guy. Not sure how appetizing his contract is with 3 years left at $4.4 million aav. Plus he has some no trade clause. He’d be a solid get.

Murphy is standard SAH top 4

If Hawks move him it would be for a pick or picks

Murphy because of modified NTC can dictate teams he is willing to go to which makes moving him potentially difficult at this stage

Yeah he is been a beast for Boston. I love to have him. The Oilers would have a decent top 4 D for the 1st time in forever.

Nurse Orlov
Ekholm Bouchard.
Broberg Vinny

Lets the Oilers move Ceci and Kulak and that 6M towards an upgrade.

Sounds like he is Ceci level of player. We need an upgrade.

Probably around his level.

Bouchard with Ekholm seems to have the 2nd pairing RD spot locked up. I’m not sure Murphy would be a big enough improvement for the top pairing warrant the move.

I’ve come around on the moving of both Ceci and Kulak for cap space. Prior I only wanted to see one of the two moved out. Combined they are 6m.

If we can get a guy like Orlov I’d be all for it. Will only cost cap and if he’s in the fold maybe we justify a buyout on Campbell since adding a legit top pairing guy would warrant it.

If we can’t pull Orlov I wouldn’t be opposed to trying for Severson. Past that likely the trade route. I’d want Holland to swing for the fences on a trade though. Not Murphy but an impact guy of Ekholm level. Overpay if need be.

Middle pairing SHD who has size and is a righty.

It'll cost a 2nd unless you want retention, which Hawks can certainly do, but with the amount of years remaining, it'd bump the price up to a 1st.

I wouldn’t trade the Canucks first this year but what about Murphy with retention for Lekkerimaki? He was the Canucks 1st last year, 15th overall.

I definitely think a good RD option is an obvious place we can upgrade. We need someone who is passable but without a big cap hit. Ceci's cap hit is fantastic although yes, not ideal as our top pairing RD. Even a marginal upgrade would make a big difference.

I bet Murphy could be that guy, especially if Chicago could hold onto a piece of the salary.

I don’t think an injury prone Connor Murphy is who the Oilers are looking for, I believe they will add Erik Karlsson as well as a guy like Carson Soucy or Radko Gudas instead, financial gymnastics not withstanding of course!!

Hawks could easily retain half on anybody on the team not named Seth.
I hear that their new top prospect Jeth Sones is on the trading block. Hidden gem they found playing pond hockey in an old coal mining town near Columbus.

I think Erik Karlsson is a massive mistake. I don't believe he finishes his contract playing like this. I'd hope the Oilers target someone who is actually capable of playing any semblence of defense.

I am for trading Kulak but trading Ceci is not smart. Oilers have more depth on the left side with NHL experience/potential (Broberg, Niemelainen). Kulkak is blocking Broberg. Oilers don't have an in house replacement for Ceci. I also don't see Desharnais as a player to play 82 games yet. Ceci playing with Broberg or Niemelainen will give them that veteran support.

Nurse-*UPGRADE
Ekholm-Bouchard
Broberg-Ceci
Niemelainen-Desharnais

If Oilers can run a 23 man roster with 8 defencemen, 13 forwards and 2 goalies, that would set them up well for an 82 game season in 2023-24. Oilers can opt for an 11-7 lineup.

IMO, possible players to play with Nurse are Karlsson, Dumba or Severson maybe Klingberg for next season.
