What is the cost for Connor Murphy with double retention to Edmonton? I think he’d be a good partner to pair with Nurse. Nurse has played more aggressively this season and has looked better as a result, to have a stable, stay at home Dman on his right side would be the perfect compliment.

A #4/5 defender, under contract this year and next @ $4.4 mil, to get 50% retention likely costs a 1st (or some equivalent), but would it cost more? What about the 2nd team taking on $1.1 mil this year and next? A 3rd maybe?

Is this fair?

To EDM: Murphy 75% retained (1.1 mil cap hit)

To CHI: 2026 1st, Emberson, Paul Fischer

To ANH: 2025 3rd (STL)

Nurse doesnt need a stay at home partner.

He needs someone who can get to the puck and help transition it out of the zone.

Hawks fans would do it for sure.

Bowman liked Murphy a lot. Traded and extended him. Hawks would be happy if they still liked him.

I dunno if a third team is going to be willing to retain for next year. Probably looking at a single 50 % retention.

Emberson is fine and only getting better. Difference between him and Murphy isn't a 1st rd pick.

Remove Emberson at minimum.
Keep Emberson and remove the 1st ideally for Oilers

The one thing this season has shown is the Oil's bottom 4 are so much better without Ceci and Vinny, and focusing more on speed.

Murphy is a step in the wrong direction. Skating, and puckskills are musts, and Murphy brings neither of those.

I'm a Hawks fan and if any team wants to give a 26 1st for him whether retention is involved or not, I'd say that's enough.

I proposed a similar trade before (but with Soderblom in it) and was roasted by my fellow Oiler fans for giving up "too much" value which is how I know it was probably about right. Murphy isn't a speedster but his defensive metrics at even strength are continually very strong and he would fill a big hole on the right side of the #1 PK unit. Add in Soderblom who could be a good starter yet behind a better D and I think it checks two major boxes for us.

I don't see the value to the Oilers in this trade. I personally don't rate Connor Murphy as highly as some, and I don't think he is the type of player the OIlers are looking to add.

I do think we agree that the Oilers need a bit of an upgrade on the right side if they are to make a long playoff run.

I don't think Connor Murphy is the right guy for that role.

Why do Chicago need those 2 players?

This seems like Shiny New Toy Syndrome. Ceci's play as an Oiler kicks the hell out of Stecher and Emerson. People are pleased with Stecher in the top 6 and it makes me feel like the world is on crazy pills. Emerson still has potential to be a 4d but let's not pretend the team is asking as much from him as they did Ceci and succeeding at it.(especially playoff style)

A second for retention seems like too much but a 3rd too little. Maybe a 3rd for each year? Hawks just need a 1st back not those players.

What was your offer? I kind of doubt the hawks will trade soderblom at this point. He’s having a great year unlike all of the other young goalies in the system.

Oilers aren't moving Emberson, he's been excellent with Kulak and has only gotten better with every passing game. There's even been talk about the Oilers extending this guy when January comes.

Oilers need to target a puck mover to partner with Nurse. Market is pretty thin on right shots, I'd personally like a guy like Provorov out of Columbus.
