I think the league wants to avoid another McDavid situation where the winner doesn't accept the award, but Marner (and the Canes) are sure making it difficult for the league to avoid said situation, even if the Canes do come back and win.

I don't see how at the current pace the league could give the award to Hall or Andersen with a straight face. Somebody would have to step up huge for the Canes in all 3 wins that they need. Or if it goes to a game 7 overtime and the Canes win, they could throw it at whoever scored the winner and maybe get away with not giving it to Marner, but that's about it.

Marner is iron hot right now, but 28 points is still not 42 points, which is what McDavid had. There is a maximum of 4 games left. There are players in NHL history who had 30+ playoff points in a losing cause and didn't win it. Daniel Briere, Logan Couture, Bure comes to mind as well. We will have to see. There might be a case where it just makes the most sense to give it to him in a losing cause. It made sense for Reggie Leach to win it in 1976 with a still-record 19 goals. No Hab stood out on that team where they had to get it either. Dryden, maybe Lafleur is who you give it to. But a goal in 10 straight playoff games is epic. Plus a 5 goal game in an elimination game. You've got to give it to Leach on that one.

It really depends on how the last few games go. We all agree Marner is the winner if the Knights win it though. That much is certain.

If the Canes win that means Hall will have played either 19 or 20 games (assuming he doesn't get injured). He's currently sitting at 17P in 16G, so there's a realistic shot that he doesn't even get to 20 points if the Canes win. When is the last time a skater won with less than 20 points?
Crosby won it with 19 points in '16

When is the last time a team required just 13 games to get to the Final?

Doesn't happen very often.

If Vegas wins, then we all know who it's going to be. The fairly tale is just writing itself at this point.

It's going to be so very juicy, Toronto media is gonna be quite the spectacle this summer when Marner brings home the cup. I can't wait.
Mark Stone captaining Vegas to their 2nd cup would be quite something

Patrick Kane won with 19 points in 23GP in 2013, Krejci (on the losing team) had 26 points in 22 games.

It's hard to compare points alone because regardless when the series ends, Vegas would have played 3 more games than Carolina.

From NHL.com:

"Mitch Marner scored the fastest hat trick in Stanley Cup Final history (6:10) and scored his third goal of the game on a shot attempt of 91.44 mph, which was his hardest shot of the entire season (regular season or postseason). It was the hardest shot attempt resulting in a goal by a forward this postseason and the third hardest among all skaters. It was also Marner’s hardest shot attempt since Jan. 11, 2023 with the Toronto Maple Leafs (91.45 mph). Marner also became the first NHL player with four points (three goals, one assist) in a period during the Stanley Cup Final."

I just feel like people are ruling out Jon Cooper too quickly here.

Would as deserving as his Jack Adams is.

That'll be the icing on the cake.

Already all playoffs, the Marner hating Toronto media and fans have shut their mouths about him.
