One of the greatest tournaments ever, known as the Summit Series. Team of the Century!!!

49 years ago today, Canada came from behind to win Game 8 with 34 seconds left in Russia. That's all that was needed.

Also a shout out to the 1974 WHA Summit Series. Sooooo close to winning, but still a great series.

And to commemorate the 50th anniversary next year there should be a 8 game Canada v USA Summit Series. 2 games Vancouver/Seattle then on for a pair in Winnipeg/Chicago. Detroit/Toronto and to finish 2 games NYC/Montreal.

How does the 1972 team do in the 2022 Olympics?

F. Mahovlich - P. Esposito - Cournoyer
Hadfield - Ratelle - Gilbert
Henderson - Clarke - Ellis
P. Mahovlich - Mikita - Perreault
Cashman/Parise

Park - Lapointe
Bergman - Savard
White - Stapleton

Dryden
T. Esposito
Johnston

This was the best I could do with the line combinations. I've got the GAG line out there just because. Anyway, very good strength down the middle for sure. Still not a bad defense, even without Orr. Put Tony O in net and you're fine.

Nope. Not in my opinion. Canada v USA is today what Canada v Russia was 50 years ago. The Americans are our main rival and contender. + Canada v USA just a more entertaining brand of hockey.
Your main rival hasn't won a gold at the senior level since 1996.

I'm not Russian, but if I were, I'd be annoyed at the idea of replacing them with the US for a commerative tournament.

Also, Russians are on the rise IMO. Starting to get some good D and the goalies are ridiculous!! If only they could borrow a Centre or 2 from someone else.

How about the Americans, Russians, Swedes and Finns play a tournament to see who gets a shot at Team Canada in a 50 year Anniversary of the '72 series.

My money would be on the Americans coming out of that group.

We do have the Olympics coming up. That is best on best. We will see.

This isn't Canada's 50th anniversary.. it is Canada and Russia's 50th anniversary.

It'd be like if you were married and invited your mistress to your 50th wedding anniversary instead of your wife because she is more fun.lol

maybe. but for a whole bunch of reasons Canada v USA appeals to me a whole lot more than anything the Russians can bring to a 8 game home/away set. Give me the Americans. But check back in a decade for the 60th Anniversary, maybe Russia will have more at that time than just 1 line + Goalie.
