The decision to trade Resse looks worse by the day. This front office gets praised a lot for zero results.

The -0.4 WAR Reese McGuire for the 0.2 WAR Zach Collins makes the front office look bad?

I didnt like the trade at the time but its a wash at worst.

Not saying Collins is good, but this is the definition of an inconsequential trade.

2022 WAR:
Jansen: 0.7 WAR
Kirk: 0.7 WAR
Collins: 0.2 WAR
Heineman: 0.2 WAR
McGuire: -0.4 WAR

Looks like the Jays got better production from the catcher position than what McGuire is bringing with the White Sox. McGuire wasnt going to get much playing time and after rosters shrunk he may not be on the team especially with Moreno lingering.

The Collins trade was always a simple roster thing: player without option and would be claimed for a player who had an option and might possibly (but likely won't) hit from the left side. Essentially, it was better than nothing, and it's still possible Collins can be flipped for some under the radar low minors prospect the moment another team is in desperate need of catching.

If they can't make some noise on this homestand, then there should be a lot of concern of where this season is headed. I believe cream always rises to the top, so if we are good we will have a great homestand and start distancing ourselves more and more from the .500 mark.

Why, because they dumped Heineman? Phillipmike hit the highlights already: Reese is bad, Heineman is bad and was just here to do a job (fill in while Jansen was hurt. He's back now and thus Heineman is no longer needed), Collins isn't much better than Reese but a) has offensive potential and b) is optionable while McGuire isn't.

And most of this matters only as far as we're stalling for time until Moreno is ready.

At best trading McGuire gave the Jays additional flexibility to make changes at a position at a spot on the depth chart that's fairly low impact regardless, so it's a net win for the Jays on those grounds.

at worst trading him is a wash because you've dealt one replaceable depth catcher for another and the Heineman move was wholly separate and immaterial.

This is an odd thing to take umbrage over.

I think I posted this but the two biggest mistakes the front office made were not getting a better bench OF and another very good BP arm. Garcia hasn't been good at all.

Jays have had the hardest schedule to date. They have the 4th easiest from here on out.

That's what it's been about.

The biggest thing for the Jays was so stay in the mix through this early part of the season. They've had a lot of close games, some injuries, and the offense hasn't gotten fully going yet.

Look at the Red Sox. They face an uphill climb now to the playoffs. At least the Jays have avoided that kind of start.

The Yankees have feasted on the 4th easiest schedule so far. So they're in a good position with the division. Yet somehow their schedule is middle of the pack difficulty the rest of the way. Go figure.

The Jays will have to go on some nice winning streaks to catch the Yankees but it's doable.

Jays starters quietly at the top of the leaderboards. Yes that’s by far thanks to Gausman, but their last turn in the rotation was very encouraging. Bats need a big game to wake up badly. They simply can’t continue being a bottom 5 offence this month.

I mean barstool lol, but that's dramatic as f***. K% down, BB% down a touch, hitting the ball softer than usual, and one of the worst BABIP's in baseball. The profile is a bit concerning because of the contract, but even then a .191 BABIP isn't going to keep up.

Its a lot more likely 2019 and 2021 are his peak and he's more similar to the average hitter he was the rest of his career than he completely forgot how to hit.
