Jays P Garcia calls current MLB balls 'embarassing' - TSN.ca

Toronto Blue Jays reliever Yimi Garcia did not hold back his thoughts when asked about Tuesday night's heated affair against the New York Yankees, in which Garcia, Jays' pitching coach Pete Walker, and manager Charlie Montoyo were ejected.

“Last night was one of the worst nights of my playing career, regarding the baseball," Garcia said on Wednesday, through an interpreter. Garcia added that he did not intent to hit Donaldson and called the balls being used by MLB this season are "embarassing" and "really slippery".

Garcia was ejected without warning in the sixth inning after hitting Yankees' third baseman Josh Donaldson in the upper arm with an errant pitch. Walker was immediately tossed from the game when he and Montoyo ran onto the field to argue crew chief Alfonso Marquez's decision. Next inning, Blue Jays' shortstop Bo Bichette was hit with a pitch from Yankees reliever Jonathan Loaisiga and Montoyo was tossed after yelling at the umpires from the dugout.

Following the game, which the Yankees won 6-5, Montoyo told reporters that the umpires decision to eject Garcia was based on words being exchanged between Donaldson and Jays catcher Tyler Heineman in the fifth inning.

"I’m going to tell you exactly what they told me. The reason they thought that Yimi Garcia threw at Donaldson was because Heineman and Donaldson were yelling at each other in the fifth inning or something," said Montoyo. "They decided that they thought we threw at Donaldson in a tie game after the home run on the second pitch.”

Donaldson spoke after the game, adding that he didn't think it was intentional.

“In my heart of hearts, I don’t think it was [intentional], but it didn’t look good on television, that’s for sure.”

Montoyo will return to the bench to manage as the Jays and Yankees battle again on Wednesday afternoon. Despite Tuesday's animosity, Motonyo believes his team can take some positives from the night's events.

"I’m proud of my team for coming back after all of that,” Montoyo said. “Believe me, we could have said, ‘Oh, the umpires are against us’ and all of that stuff. It’s actually the other way around. I’m proud of my team for coming back in a game like this.”

Wait what?????

Has anyone played or play OOTP baseball? What’s the learning curve for this game?

Play in an online league - if you understand baseball stats, it's really easy. It took me a bit because I don't know all the numbers all that well.

You can do a lot of different things, I make a MLB league and bring only in prospects from obscure countries like Norway - pretty fun.

As noted in Tiedemann’s offseason report the lefthander’s velocity jumped after signing “sitting 94-98 mph in short bursts” up from his 88-91 mph in Juco. Early in 2022 those short bursts have grown into long stretches. As he’s sitting 94-97 mph as a starter going 70-80 pitches per start, with heavy armside run generated from his lower slot. The combination proves a challenge for hitters as they swing and miss against it at a high rate. He pairs his fastball with a sweepy slider in the low-80s with over a foot of gloveside break. His changeup may be his best pitch, as it has heavy armside run, as well as vertical and velocity separation off of his fastball. The changeup is Tiedemann’s second most used pitch and has led to early success in the Florida State League.

I don’t know, it looked like it is deeper and better than what we started with last year. I can’t figure bullpens out. It’s definitely mind boggling to me those numbers.
It's actually about right where we were last year, right down to the part where the bullpen started very well before slowly unraveling and completely falling apart as we approached summer.

Bullpens are crazy, but it's really not that hard to figure out. When you get pitchers that routinely rely on one or two pitches, unless those particular pitches are elite, any adjustment that might be made, whether it be on the pitcher or batter's account, no matter how minor, can radically change the fortune of said pitcher. Heck, apparently Kikuchi's main problem is he simply didn't trust his best pitches, so it can easily be mental. Or you get someone who has no feeling in their hand trying to pitch anyway. There is so much more room for error in the bullpen. That's why it's practically voodoo.

He should have taken that deal. Does he really think he's going to do better?

God it's like a repeat of last year with the pen.

Was a godsend last year for the first month and then completely imploded the rest of the way. At least last year it had the excuse of injuries. Now it just stinks.

This has the potential to get even uglier with Ryu starting tomorrow.

In 1/3 of our games the starting DH has been an AAA catcher or infielder.

Still can't wrap my head around that.

Look it's only a band-aid but it would have been nice to see the Jays take a stab at Dubon. Platoon him with Tapia if Springer is out for an extended period of time. Even if Springer isn't out for that long, you could have used Dubon to better coordinate the starters off days by having him come in on days against lefties and not having to suffer a black hole in the lineup.

career 126 wRC+ against lefties, plays CF, idk just annoying seeing that go for a 3rd catcher when we have no bench depth right now.

To be fair, all of the other good options have been injured this whole time. The only respectable option remaining was Kirk, but not letting him catch was robbing him of the opportunity to gain valuable major league experience as a catcher, although lately they've been putting other people back there for some reason.

No, the REAL head scratcher is why so many of them have been allowed to bat so high up in the order.

Do we need a thread title change?
That would essentially be acknowledging I've been bang on about him so far. :P
