lets talk draft and strategy

do you take a underslot in the first to levy your chances to go overslot on picks 2,3 and 4 like groshan and kloff just a larger snowball effect

or

do you take the the highest ranks, draft for need .

if rocker falls do you nab him depending on cost

I’m keeping an eye on Dylan Lesko. Widely regarded as the top pitcher in the draft, just had to undergo TJ, might fall down boards because of his bonus demands.

i think more then likely they will go with another high end arm again. i wouldn't be one bit surprised, if they take rocker if he's still there

one thing for sure lots of lhp/rhp in the top 75 draft eligible along with a nice number of outfielders

Just finishing today's game. Thank god for Springer and the pen. Umps need to screw off. How do they single out Vladdy of all people this game. Both teams left a lot of runners on so I guess I've give the offense a pass since Houston did it too.

No Orelvis in AA for the 2nd day in a row.

Samad Taylor did this in extras today

Learning to win some low scoring, close games is important .. hopefully they can keep grinding out the wins until the bats warm up (which they will) and the schedule gets lighter.

Glad to see Bo get a couple of hits would be nice to get him rolling sooner than late to take some of the stress on Springer and Vladdy at the top of the order.

Man if I see one more news story about how the big bad Yankees are "back" I'm gonna hurl. Beating up on the sad sack Central and the O's isn't a measuring stick of any consequence. By the tone of some of these articles you'd think they were the 84 Tigers and run away with the division already. Sheesh! Give it a rest NY media.

^4 innings after I say that Trent Palmer is perfect through 6 with 8 strikeouts. He had two 7 inning no hitters last year for Dunedin

Curious to see how my predictions are doing so far:

"JAYS: 94-97 wins"
-So far, so good! But it looks like my initial gut feeling that they would finish above 100 might happen.

"TEAM MVP (mathematically) SPRINGER-- he will be on pacing for MVP'ish numbers, but he'll likely be injured so..."
-Well, the numbers part is looking good but not so much the injury part.

"ACTUAL MVP: MANOAH"
-He's killing it out there, lol. Still, it's early in the season.

"TEAM TOP DEFENDER: Guess."
-Chapman, obviously. So far you could say that but there have been a lot of good defensive performances.

"MOST IMPROVED: BIGGIO"
-Blarg. Umps are still punishing him on the strike zone and he's clearly lost his confidence out there.

"BREAKOUT: ESPINAL"
-Wee! Cooled down a fair bit but he's driving the ball much more often and looking good out there at second. Not today, but overall...

"MOST SURPRISING: Probably someone from the bullpen."
-It's been Collins, a catcher. Granted, his hot start has so far been exactly that, so this one is still open.

"OVERPERFORMS: GURRIEL -I honestly have no real basis for this one, lol. More likely it will be Chapman or Jansen. "
-Half right about this one. It was Jansen before he got injured.

"UNDERPERFORMS (relatively, like hit just 280 or so): VLADDY"
-Bang on. Despite one freakishly good game, he still ends up ending the month hitting below 280 while routinely hitting grounders and thus risking more DPs. Still good overall, just not as great as how he was hitting the first half of last year. There has to be some reason why he's not putting good wood on low and away pitches.

"ACTUALLY UNDERPERFORMS: RYU -I expect worse from Kikuchi."
-Double banger.

"MOST HOME RUNS (and RBIs): SPRINGER"
-Half right. He's tied for home runs, but if Vladdy hadn't hit those three, let's just say one, he would be.

"MOST STEALS: TAPIA"
-Dead wrong. I know he's tied with Bo, but my point here is that he'd be running like crazy, but he's not. He's okay, but I'm a little concerned about his compete level. Maybe the final result might be right but the initial logic is wrong, so I consider the entire prediction wrong.

"MOST LIKELY TO MAKE ME EAT CROW: JANSEN"
-You know you're good when you're right about being wrong, lol.

So final score...I was only really wrong about two things. That's really darn good.

Now before anyone gets all snippy about this post, keep in mind my making predictions about team performance is all part of the fun for me, so I was ALWAYS going to do this whether we had gotten off on the right foot or not, which means if this sort of thing bothers you...then you were always going to hate me. And that says WAY more about you.

It’s not about you posting your guesses for the season. It’s your I’m so much smarter than everyone attitude that’s off putting. Nothing wrong with this post aside from it coming super early. The Ryu Kikuchi one was one I wouldn’t have agreed with as I was somewhat confident they’d be decent. They are not so far. Hopefully for the jays that changes though

Someone rescue Joey Votto

It can’t be fun to play for a team like that. Why Votto isn’t requesting a trade tells you maybe he doesn’t care about winning

Forgive me, but Bo is still in as deep of a slump as ever.

I know he hit a couple of timely homers in this series,, but they were both chip-shots to the other side that weren't really squared up. Both probably not over the fence in 50% of MLB parks.

I'll take the situational luck, but Bo looks SOOO lost to me at the plate right now. And the defence is worse.

I think we need to start to consider Bo at 2nd base as soon as we can get Orelvis here.

Lots of ammo now to keep his next contract reasonable is the only blessing. As someone who ALWAYS wants to lock up the young guys as early as possible, it's probably best we haven't overpaid on a longterm deal for Bo right now. The team is now in the drivers seat on contract discussions.

I will still maintain not to panic over Bo. The thing people are missing is 2021 was his first full on season in the majors. Every young player usually faces a monster slump like this. There's now well over 200 games of Bo ABs for scouts/coaches to comb through and figure out where his weaknesses are.

I will concede it's a bit concerning, but the sky isn't falling. That being said some of his ABs in this series have been absolutely atrocious.

I managed to catch the last couple innings at work and we had the game on for Bo's last AB, count was 1-2 and my coworker, while not being a big baseball fan (big basketball/football guy) and he's like oh what's gonna happen and i'm like "well, Bo likes to swing so it'll be something off the plate and he whiffs for strike three"

Suffice to say i was right and proceeded to groan because that ball wasn't just off the plate, that shit was on its way to the dugout.

I will reserve any more judgement until Teo gets back. Part of me does wonder how much of Bo's slump is him trying to force things to happen feeling like he needs to pick up the slack.

Also; For the love of everything give Romano some time to rest. I don't care if it's by scoring some more runs, just not putting him out there or whatever, the man's arm is going to fall off by June at this rate. Sending your closer out in 70% of your games is just begging for catastrophe.

The apex of this team's capability is tantalizingly close. All it takes is a run to remind them how well they can swing the bat and you're looking at what i think will be the best team in the AL.

Bo simply needs to learn no batter is talented enough to get away with swinging at junk and if you show pitchers you won't swing at strikes it's going to give them even less reason to give you good pitches to hit since they know you are going to get yourself out trying to force it.

That had to be one of the most annoying games I’ve ever seen lol. Among pitchers with 300+ innings, Valdez has the 3rd highest GB% (behind Britton and Ziegler) since the stat was tracked.

Bo’s homerun was also the only flyball he surrendered today.
