Nice to get on a little streak now to get ahead of the division. With a tough schedule to start the year up to mid-May, the biggest thing is to just keep pace with divisional rivals. If they can get a ahead by a couple of games that's a bonus. Really important to not get behind early on. This division is too tough to have to be playing catch-up through most of the season.

Yep huge to get at least 4 wins on this trip before going home. If they are still without a series loss come the end of the home stand, then they can really create some separation early.

Does anyone know if the comp pick would still be attached to Conforto next year too or not?

EDIT: Mets do NOT get that pick now, so he is free to sign with no comp pick.

Do you have a source for that? As far as I'm aware signing him still costs a pick. The last CBA governs this offseason as it started under the last CBA. Us getting a pick for our players while the Mets don't get one for theirs because of something completely out of both teams control doesn't make much sense.

Plus the latest CBA agreement was the comp picks goes away if we can agree on a IFA draft this coming offseason so my understanding was it counts for this past offseason(Conforto included) and only goes away for next year if they come up with a IFA draft which seems unlikely to me.

Signing him will cost a pick until the draft happens. Once the draft is past he is free from any pick penalty. Conforto also won’t have to worry about any future Qualifying Offer because even if the system stays the same, a player can only be offered the QO once in their career.

The Jays play every single team in the American league and 2 NL teams before they play the Orioles. Their 2nd series against the O's isn't until August 8th

Man if we get the Borucki of old, or better then the Borucki of old, that would be huge for the pen.

I think Borucki is the last reliever over Merryweather in May when rosters shrink down. Borucki's career FIP is 4.27. Merryweather's is 4.17. So not a big difference here considering Merryweather has the option and Borucki doesn't. It's really just about the option though. If Borucki falters you can dfa him and call up Merryweather but I think Borucki will have at least a month or two to show what he's got but I don't think his leash will be the whole year or even 3-4 months. He's got to be good over the next 2 months to stay on the team.

for moreno to be promoted to the big club ideally

we really need to do a trade to shed some catching depth. right now with collins/jansen/kirk plus the switch hitter i cant remember his name. all on the mlb roster

last season proves we can get value for something that was worthless when reese was designated and no one picked him up we then parleyed him in to collins a year or so later

so i ask who would you trade ideally for what kind of return

I'd sign Jansen to a 5 year, 30 million dollar deal. Buy a few years of free agency. He's proven his value. But if you trade Kirk (5 years of control) you have to get Jansen locked in because he only has 2 years of arbitration after this year. But if we can't get Jansen to a team friendly contract, I'd consider to TB Ray him for some more controllable pitching. But my first choice is definitely keep Jansen on a team friendly deal. He's the best defensively now which matters for a contending team. Also he should cash in. It would be a good deal for both sides.

Then you go with Moreno over Kirk because Moreno has more upside and has the extra 1+ years of control. He's a Bichette level prospect just at catcher.

Kirk can bring us either a good outfielder or a couple of bullpen arms... Like an enhanced Rowdy Tellez trade but with better arms coming back. I don't know who is willing to give up good arms for a catcher. Maybe the Guardians.

I wouldn't be looking to move anyone because we have a surplus. That's how we ended up with Brad Hand. There might be a squeeze for sure but good teams need good bench bats, wasn't Gavin Lux supposed to be a bench guy or the #9 hitter for the Dodgers this year? and it's not like we have 4 clear starters, they earn their way into the everyday lineup and if they do and there's no room then they've only increased their value. Collins can play some first. Moreno can maybe play some infield. There's a DH slot, they all have options. Never ever ever force a trade. Let teams come asking

Lets not trade Yan Gomes again

Is there any news on Teoscar returning ? We seriously need his bat back. Bo needs to focus on making contact again I don’t remember him striking out so much last year.

Sorry I am late replying to this. If Conforto is signed next year (given that he had surgery and is out), he will not require compensation because the rule only applies to players tendered an offer who sign before the next draft (which is in July). A healthy Conforto absolutely would have gotten a pick, but given the tweet from Rosenthal, it would be stupid to offer him a deal before the draft (OTOH, making an offer right after the draft offering him some compensation this year could potentially be a smart move).

Yeah, it seems like that's pretty much a guarantee what will happen, right?

I guess it's possible that Conforto still tries to get as much as he can on this deal, but considering the disappointing year he just had and the fact that he's now going to miss all of 2022, I can't imagine any team goes for that. I think he'll sign after the draft to the kind of deal we see a lot of pitchers sign... pay him a bit to rehab this year, then you get him for 2023, then he hits free agency again.
