Couple of minor league notes:

Moreno is 7 for 18 at AAA.

Samad Taylor is quietly making a case to be the first guy we turn to for a callup. Has played 2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF, career .763 OPS. But the thing about Taylor is that something has changed this year. He struck out 99+ times his last three years, but is rocking a 11BB-4K this year. If this is something he can sustain, he could quietly become our third best position prospect (and if he earned a call-up, we could rotate him around the diamond to use our DH spot as we intended originally).

Thank god there was no rule 5 this year!

Collins K rate is a little higher than his previous numbers (but close). His BB rate is significantly lower than his career numbers.

One interesting thing is that he had 25 extra base hits in 351PA before his year and has 4 in 21 this year.

Since 2015, Major League Baseball has suspended 23 players who tested positive for Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (DHCMT), better known as the anabolic steroid Oral Turinabol. Virtually all of the players penalized remain adamant they did nothing wrong, and two recently told The Athletic that the sport’s new labor pact includes changes to the Joint Drug Agreement (JDA) that support their case. Only neither of them knows precisely what those changes are. Player agents also are unclear on the modifications, and officials from the league and Players Association will not comment.
This is the drug that Chris Colabello was suspended for using

Oh I’m not disagreeing the stepping out of the box off the mound all that stuff can get old. That’s what they need to stop but 2 hours is a fast game. Especially if you’re paying for premium seats.

I umpire a lot of the local Rep Minor League baseball. The stepping out of the box actually wastes more time imo. The 3b coach has to give his signals every pitch. Even when there is no one on and no one out they have to look down there to get the signals. When I played my coach once yelled back at me "hit the ball".

That’s actually a short game at just under two hours. That’s a lot of lost concessions

I've only been to one game that lasted under 2 hours. Back in 2004 Miguel Bautista through a complete game gem to beat the Dodgers 4-0. I remember it last 1 hour, 57 minutes. It was awesome to see, but we wanted more since games are usually closer to 3 hours. LOL

An average of 2 hours, 40 minutes for a game is solid. Start just at 7, and finish before 10. If that's most of the game, then it's pretty good, both watching on TV and in stadium.

I'm one who doesn't mind baseball being long and drawn out considering its intricacies. But if it does away with Nomar Garciaparra type batting glove velcro'ing or pitchers who take forever to deliver, then by all means.

I remember a really short game that was started by Mark Buerhle and Roy Halladay. Maybe the shortest one I can remember since I started watching Baseball/the Jays. Not sure if it was quite under 2 hours, but it was close.

If he can efficiently play all those positions he becomes what they wish Biggio was

That’s what the sign is. Swing if it’s a strike and hit the ball

Exactly. That timing is about right for a game. Really they just need to clean up the hitters. They do way to much stepping out. Adjusting gloves, feet etc.

I don't know if I've been to one under 2 hours, but I saw Halladay's 10-inning complete game win over the Tigers in 2007. That one is listed as 2:14, which is pretty damn impressive for a 10-inning game.

Ya, but the 3B coach doesn't need to get the batter to step out of the box every pitch watch you touch yourself ten times then get back in and tap the plate, take a practice swing .

Trust me, this is what happens:. The pitcher gets pissed and start to borderline quick pitch, it happens more and more now.

So as the umpire I could:
-Do nothing and batter will get pissed, plus it can get dangerous
-Batter will ask and I call time between basically every pitch and slow the game down
-Stop the game go to the mound and tell the pitcher he has to wait for the batter his coach will get pissed
-Refuse to call time, creating even bigger problems
-Start calling the Rule Book quick pitches create an even bigger shitstorm because no one knows the actual rule

No matter what I have to interject myself into the game

No runners on, you shouldn't be allowed to give signals

Frankly I think the problem is a combo of stepping off and the delays with pitchers. If I recall, the pitch clock starts once the batter is set.

Make it a rule that you have the pitch clock, but you get to throw it, even if the batter isn’t set. Let them do their routine during the pitch clock.

Baseball is generally a routine/superstition sport. This way, pitcher and batter get to do both of those. But they get to do it simultaneously instead of independently.

I was being facetious responding to the joke the other guy said. Like the poster below you said they just need to run the clock simultaneous and not once the batter is in the box. That may result in a possible quick pitch but it forces them both to hurry up

If I remember correctly he also did it in under 100 pitches.

Simply amazing

I'm talking about Ontario Minor Midget AA where a 7 inning game is beginning to average over 2 hours. It's getting ridiculous, I suspended more games due to darkness last year than I did in my first 20 years of umpiring put together.

(guess we can't call it Midget anymore)

That would be annoying af. It’s almost like you need to talk to the coaches ahead of the game. But what can you even do. It’s not like there’s a delay of game call in baseball. Maybe you just say if the player is taking too long you’ll signal the pitcher that he’s ok to throw
