Speculation: Confirmed by Canucks GM Allvin- Canucks have made a contract extension offer to Filip Hronek

During a post trade deadline interview, Canucks GM Allvin has confirmed that the Canucks have made an offer to Hronek in regards to a contract extension.
Hronek 26 yrs old, is still under team control as rfa this summer.

Hroneky has become a top pairing Dman this season partnering up with Q Hughes.

He has already set career high on points and is on pace for 56pts. He is also a +34 this season while logging well over 23 min of ice timer per night.
He is in top 15 in Dman scoring while being the only player on that top 15 to be averaging less than 2 min of PP ice time per game.

For reference: Hronek averages 1:47 PP time per game.

What do you think his extension will look like? Is Forlsing's 5.75 AAV a comparable? Will the fact that Q Hughes is only making 7.8 mil keep Hronek in the 6-7 mil range?

Something between $7,350,000 and $8,500,000 using Vince Dunn and Mikhail Sergachev as comparables.

I think it will $7.8-7.9m, nestled tightly next to Quinn Hughes' $7.85m

Hronek is definitely worth that but i hope we get him well under that with a team friendly discount to allow the Canucks to have more cap flexebility. Would be amazing if we can get under 7mil.
 
Now that I have had some time to think about it, I think they will sign him to a shorter deal like Dunn.
Thinking something like $6.75m-$7.25m x 4 or 5.
If he signs for 7-8 years, then he will get something between $7.75m-$8.00m.
 
I don’t expect they will get a team discount with Walsh as the agent. They may have to pay market rate of 7.5-8.0m.

And that shouldn’t bother them. They waited so long and traded so much to get a top-four RD. They aren’t going to let him go over an overpay of $0.5-1.0m AAV.

Where did you get the 7.5-8M market value from? Based on which contract(s)?

Calgary had no leverage over Weegar and isn’t considered a desirable location. I don’t think Hronek is really much better and his “market value” shouldn’t be 1.25-1.75M more than Weegar.

Realistically his contract should be under 7 based on his playing ability and comparable contracts.

He is being carried hard by QH.

Good luck with that. Weegar is four years older.

We definitely need to find a way to retain him, but he's not worth what he wants.

$6.5 -7 million max is what I would offer and settle around $7.25. Apparently he wants more than $8 million per.

Only the Canucks can give him 8 years
No other team can even offer 7 until the end of next year without an offer sheet which basically never happens anymore
The AAV is gonna be a lot less than most here think
8yrs x 7$M is my guess
OR
He signs a short term bet on myself contract like Gavrikov signed with the Kings

That would be ideal. Hronek is a very good, young, RHD. However, he hasn't proven that he can carry a pair on his own, I would be hesitant to give him both term and top dollar. 4-5 years is preferable for all parties involved IMO. From the player's perspective, he still gets roughly $28m-$35m, but he can sign another big contract in his very early 30s when the cap is expected to be much higher. The team gets a good, but not elite, top pairing RHD during the peak contending years, while giving themselves the flexibility to re-evaluate 4-5 years down the road when JTM likely regresses and Demko/Hughes may or may not be with the team anymore.
 
People mention Dunn's contract, which is totally reasonable, just keep in mind Dunn got no trade protection at all for this year, a full ntc next year, and last 2 years a partial ntc. A full NMC is worth quite a bit to a player, and i expect Hronek will get one for a least some of his years.
 
Isn't he 1 year away from UFA? You will likely pay in 8.5-9.5 range on a long term deal, with the cap going up, or 6-7M on a 1 year arbitration reward.
