I took a quick look at 2014 roster and I decline this offer.lol. 2024 and 2014 are.both weak and a perfect sample of our two decades of darkness! I feel it started around 2005 and hit it's peak from 2014 to today actually. Slow climb back to relevancy which may never happen.

2 elite goalies... And smith was very good! Every position is elite actually. Juggernaut

Mcdavid ('24)
Mackinnon ('24)
Makar ('24)
Marchessault ('24)
Crosby ('14) and ('24)

Best Canadians at the moment.

And since I slandered the 2014 team.. here they are by age. So it's nice to see legends names like Elias, Jagr, Nedved, Zidlicky and Kaberle but they were all near the end (well, not Jagr.lol). Hemsky declined very early in his career too.

2 non NHL goalies in Kovar and Salak.

Barinka on our D.lol 35 year old Rozsival on our D.

This was peak Czech decline where our young guys sucked and our old guys were old. I fear the Swiss will have similar fate in 2030 tbh.

Just adding the explosive offence from McDavid, MacKinnon, and Makar to the 2014 team is ridiculous.

Benn McDavid MacKinnon
Marchand Crosby Bergeron
Tavares Getzlaf Perry
Marleau Toews Carter
Point, Stone

Vlasic Makar
Keith Weber
Pietrangelo Doughty
Morrissey, Bouwmeester

Price
Luongo
Smith

Zidlicky, Kaberle, Rozsival and Michálek greater slopes than the fifth slope in the paper in the past skills for Czech Republic.

I had no idea Nedved played in Sochi.

It's ridiculous how stacked Canada is. I decided to see what Canadian forwards would make a B-Team (includes 2014 Olympic forwards, injured 2014 forwards and current 2024 forwards).

St.Louis('14)-Tavares('14)-Stamkos('14)
Sharp ('14)-Seguin ('14)-Giroux('24)
Duchene ('14)-Jumbo('14)- Eberle('14)
Hall('14)-Thomas-('24)- Mack('14)
Extras: ROR ('14), Couture ('14)

Slovakia (excuse lack of Slovak characters, its difficult on this device):

Slafkovsky (24) - Handzus (14) - Hossa (14)
Tatar (14) - Ruzicka (24) - Gaborik (14)
Jurco (14) - Kopecky (14) - Marcel Hossa (14)
Panik (14) - Pospisil (24) - Radivojevic (14)
Extra: Marcinko (14), Surovy (24)

Chara (14) - Cernak (24)
Sekera (14) - Meszaros (14)
Fehervary (14) - Visnovsky (14)
Extra: Marincin (14), Nemec (24)

Halak (14)
Budaj (14)
Extra: Skorvanek (24)

Player notes:
-Hossa was still productive in 2014 and would be a go-to guy
-Sekera was in peak form and played like a borderline 1D this season
-Halak was also in peak form, he would give this team a chance, unfortunately other nations have even better goalies available

Prediction: Quarterfinal exit.

That is the gold medal favorite right there.

On an unrelated note, here is Russia’s lineup:

Kaprizov (24) - Malkin (14) - Radulov (14)
Ovechkin (14) - Datsyuk (14) - Kucherov (24)
Panarin (24) - Kuznetsov (24) - Svechnikov (24)
Barbashev (24) - Anisimov (14) - Nichushkin (24)
Extra: Kovalchuk (14), Kulemin (14)

Sergachev (24) - Zub (24)
Provorov (24) - Orlov (24)
Gavrikov (24) - Markov (14)
Extra: Voynov (14), Tyutin (14)

Shesterkin (24)
Bobrovsky (14)
Extra: Sorokin (24)

Player notes:
-Malkin, 27, is at his peak, second in points per game after Crosby this seaso, and outproduces Crosby in the playoffs and the Olympics
-Ovechkin, 28, good for 51 goals in 78 games and some big hits to keep the defence honest
-Despite Ovechkin’s presence, it was this peak version of Radulov, 27, who was Russia’s best winger at the 2”14 Olympics. It is unfortunate that Radulov’s peak was played outside the NHL, he would have been a 100 point winger akin to Kaprizov if he was in his peak now
-Sergachev seems to have finally matured into a 1D this season, perfect timing for this thread and for Russia
-Bobrovsky was at his peak in 2014 and posted excellent numbers at the Olympics, unfortunately the Russians only used him as a backup, its hard to say which Vezina caliber goalie should start for Russia, I went with Shesterkin, 28, but can’t go wrong here

Prediction: Silver medal.
