Wennberg 50% Retention

Jones
Kassian
2019 2nd

Columbus adds Seth Jones lil brother who’s a solid LD prospect. He didn’t look out of place in his call up and really should be pushing for a full time spot next season . I added high 2nd for retention and Kassian to make the cap work for us. He could be flipped for a 3rd or 4th pick.

Edmonton gets a player with a top 6 skill set that for whatever reason isn’t producing up to his contract yet with the retention is a good buy low candidate

The Oilers have no interest in trading Caleb Jones. He is NHL ready and will be making peanuts next year. With our salary cap issues, we can't trade NHL ready guys making under a million.

I'm not sure if we need Wennberg anyway. I'd try to swing a deal for him just because we do need NHL level forwards, but overall, I don't know if we need another playmaker in the lineup. We need shooters. We need crash and bang energy guys. We need net front precense. I'm just not sure if Wennberg is the right fit. If we weren't so damn thin at forward I would probably pass on him completely. He's today's Sam Gagner.

We aren't in a position to use Wennberg for futures, adding any pick that isn't top 10 pick does CBJ no good. There isn't a trade to be had here with this framework.

I have less than zero interest in Wennberg.

If he can’t produce with Bjorkstrand and Duclair he’s not going to do much of anything with the likes of Lucic/Rieder/Rattie.

Frankly I think that’s offering too much. Wennberg hasn’t been good in some time and is the antithesis of what we need. We need a scorer. Wennberg is as far from a scorer as you could possibly get.

I’d be sniffing around Bjorkstrand or Anderson for the pieces you’re offering.

What are your needs? Would swapping Jones out for a 2020 2nd in addition to the 2019 2nd and Kassian work?
#2C, and a top-6 LW. Y'know, the sorts of things Edmonton either doesn't have or can't spare.

The problem is that those pieces don't exactly represent good, useful assets for us, whereas Bjorkstrand and Anderson are both of very high value to us.

That’s fine, but I’m saying if we’re looking to you for scoring help those are the guys I’d be after. All things considered I don’t know if Edmonton would or could take Wennberg for free. 0 goals at evens is eye popping to say the least.

He's not nearly as bad as that stat indicates, but given that Edmonton's big need is offense, I suspect that doesn't help. :)

Probably not, but 2 goals and a 4.9 million dollar cap hit... our monstrous cap issues aside I certainly wouldn’t be offering much of value for him.
