Anyway, at the start of the season we started getting a wave of AHLers coming in and playing minutes with our team. Obviously, people didn't like it as we can see if we read any of the threads since.

I don't think any of us gave much thought as to any of these guys making it permanently for the team (Strait aside), but this Colin as far as I can tell brings his game face every game.

I rarely hear people say "WTF was Colin doing?" I am sure it has been said before, but I can't remember. Finley - Yes - Aucoin - Yes..even Ullstrom once in a while.

What I am trying to say is that I think he has a "mid 6" potential with a 2nd line ceiling. He also doesn't have a half bad record in the game outside of the NHL.

The thing about him that I like is written in the article. He was known as a goal scorer before, but he was told that to make the team (NYI), he had to play more physical. He improved on his skating...The thing is, usually, after you go beyond the age of say 23ish...it's way more difficult to improve upon yourself..ie bad habits etc. He's also smart as mentioned in the article. He won't go "out of his way" to make a hit...thus taking him out of play, which is what Martin does on occassion.

IF C. McD makes it (contract) I see him moving up in the lines.

His hard work will pay off and if signed I could see him playing second line minutes by the end of next year.

Mind you, our dynamic 4th line is so good, you can really see the impact they have on the opposition.

When you compare his stats to the others...they are quite impressive given the little minutes he plays. pound for pound, he matches and beats most of our team.

His value is enhanced by the fact he is a right handed shot playing RW, but 2nd line upside is kind of optimistic. A 2nd line wing is expected to score 25 goals or more, quite different skillset and role than a sparkplug and grinder.
CMac is doing a good job in the bottom 6, I hope he keeps it up.

Just the kind of player this team needs. Is out there hustling every night. I can see him becoming a Scatchard/Blake type - which is not a bad thing.

IMO mcdonald is a decent 13th forward. He wont wow you, but he will play a solid, balanced game any given day of the week. However we have more talented guys in our organisation. The moment our nhl roster gains some quality he will drop out of the starting line up. He is not even a remote option for the top 6 IMO.

Irony is abundant with this guy. He is exactly what the Oilers could use right now. His offensive upside is appealing

Been very impressed with his game, he plays a very simple old-time game, and he's a great counter-wing with Martin. Two guys that like to finish checks and crash the net.

Hes a 3rd line grinder energy guy who finishes hits and has some skill...

Martin-Cizikas-CMAC is a very good 3rd/4th line

Like his play a lot. Type of player who would do well in playoffs imo. Smart, phyical and tough. This team needed a guy like this.

He's grown on me. His physical play has been a real bonus on this squad of Marys though I just don't don't see the offensive upside mentioned in multiple posts above. I do like his energy, and if he can improve his defensive game I could see a solid checking unit specialist.

He is a keeper. I wish Bailey or Okposo had his physical game.

i think they should scratch boyes for a game and put him on the first line

:shakehead

Man do I like him on the 4th line. He's the time of guy you want on your team.

Like a playoff performer because of how physical he is. I love watching his line out there hit.

Who knows what the lineup will look like next season (if we sign some FA's..graduate a prospect) but there could be room on the 4th line for McDonald on a 1 year deal.
Not Garth's famous over rushed 3 year specials (Strait, Carkner). Year at a time, set the 4th line and forget about it, work on the middle 6 which is a mess, see if we can elevate ot find a legit RW for the 1st, but middle 6 is a boullibase that must be sorted out and improved.

ok move boyes down a line and scratch KO

I'd move Boyes down a line, Okposo down a line, McDonald down a line - and simply move Martin to the top.

BALANCE.

OR, can we trade for pending UFA Corey Perry for the top line?

And why can't we get pending UFA Steven Weiss as a #2 Centre?

Also Robyn Regher and Andrew Ference, also pending UFAs.

Get it done Garth !

(disclaimer: although the names have changed, this might be a post that's been replicated for the past five years. Sorry for the repetition)

If they could upgrade McDonald's spot, and Cizikas keeps improving, that could be an interesting 2nd scoring unit some time in the future.
