lol no. I don't' care what some nerd stats say, you watch the Canes play, and Rants does not pass the eye test in any game. He's been dog water.
I did watch last night. Watched him setup his current center, Jack effin Roslovic, three times for great chances that he biffed. Maybe that’s why he’s got two goals since the New Year.

Of course, I think Carolina is a bad fit style wise for Mikko and he shouldn’t sign there, but people always want to say Mikko can’t drive play. Sure seems like he’s driving play just fine.

I am a nerd, for the record.

Why would Mikko's passes not being converted have any correlation on the goals he scores?

It's the shots a player actually takes that that makes those right? If I'm looking at this correctly, Mikko has taken 25 shots and is currently sitting on a 4% shooting percentage. Are you suggesting someone else is to blame for that too?

Was he brought in just to score goals? That’s news to me. After all, you made mention of .38 ppg. Seems like you value assists a little bit.
What the f*** would you bring Mikko in for other than goals?

He does nothing but fall down uncontested. I was being kind to give him .38ppg. Dude has one f***ing goal and two assists and looks like he's worn out his welcome already.

Because, as it turns out, the guy can also pass too.

I have a hard time believing the guy who has shot 16% his entire career suddenly turned into a 4% shooter overnight. Maybe that’s just me, though.

I actually think Mikko is an unreal passer. The problem is that he's often slow and behind the play and is hardly ever in a position to actually make passes he has the ability to make.

Well, you should look forward to him continuing to do so for the Hurricanes then. Oh wait, he's not doing that is he?

Was he that great of a passer, or did he just happen to have MacKinnon and Makar finishing shots?
He truly is a great passer BUT a lot of that disappeared over the last couple of years.

Don't get me wrong I am happy with the trade because I did not like the trend Mikko was going towards with his laziness and weak play but I also will not discredit what he did here.

As is the memory of Mikko actually doing anything on his own.

He is maybe the best support player the league has seen. If you pick him to build your team around though, you will be f***ed and deserve it.
Or... Crazy concept ... multiple things could be right. Mikko is and was elite on his own. Mikko has been worse recently. Mikko is an elite support player. Mikko is an elite playmaker.

Just because he hasn't been as good as previous seasons means he was always shit.

I do not and have not ever meant to lessen what he has done. It's always been about what he is currently doing and what he is apparently asking for in return.

I'd give him 9.25M for 8 years today if he was still a member of the Avs. However, I would not be offering him 12M+. He simply is not that kind of player anymore. Sucks that it took him getting traded to figure it out, but them's the breaks.

Yeah... 100%. The dude is a legend for this franchise. Like one of the probably ~7 best players to don the sweater, which is an impressive list. It sucks to see his perception even if he's regressed a little bit the last couple seasons.

I've never suggested he's always been shit. I've only pointed out the fact that he's currently playing like shit compared to how he used to play.

You're free to take that whereever you want, but don't push it back on me saying that I didn't say he was good. He was. He still is.

But much like Duchene, he is not the guy you build around. He's a f***ing unholy support player. He's not core.

You've questioned if he was a good passer and said if a team built around him they would be f***ed...

A team did build around and literally won the Stanley Cup.

Not ways to describe someone who's good that's for sure.

Huh...

Sure.. if you want to view '22 as CMac building a team around Mikko, knock yourself out. I can't help you.

But if you actually believe he was one of the two or three most important pieces... you're as helpless as I am when it comes to understanding the game of hockey. This was a team with Nate, Cale, Toews, Nuke, Kadri (playing like the world was burning and he was going to damn sure get his share), Lehky popping game winners left and right.

Tell me where you put Rants in with those guys? You have him above them? I can see some folks putting him in the mix, but to say he was core above any of those guys would be something I can't agree to.

Mikko lucked into coming into the league when RFAs first started to get paid. His greedment forced an unpleasant contract negotiation his first time around. Once the Avs made him an offer to make him the highest paid winger in league history and he turned it down... I just don't even understand why folks are still bringing this bums name up here. f*** him.

I mean he was an integral apart of the core that won a cup... Obviously not the singular most important. But as far as the core goes it went Mack/Makar and then Mikko.
