MSL is more of a cheerleader than a coach. Seems like a nice guy and was a great player, but is in way over his head in this gig. This is all on Mr Clean Hughes and King Kong Gorton. The baldie and the gorilla

Is another coach going to get more out of Kirby Dach right now? Because that's what we really need.

Can only imagine what kind of BS wisdom pearl he uttered after this game:

Journaliste: Martin, as-tu l'impression que l'équipe recule au lieu de faire du progrès?

MSL: Reculer, c'est se déplacer ! Donc on avance quelque pars, mais à notre façon!

Coaching aside, we cannot be competitive with a $3 million goalie.
Goaltending has led to us overachieving the last two season and prevented us from bottoming out. When we don't get stellar goaltending, what we saw tonight will often happen.

On the bright side, Rangers are a strong team. The Leafs got destroyed by the Blue Jackets tonight.

Well he’s the guy that is right to give young guys confidence. To let them make mistakes and keep putting them out there. But he’s never going to be the guy to take them to that next level where they need to start being serious. Zero structure, zero accountability.

100%. I mean. I was wondering why Detroit was still out of series. Their goalies are atrocious. I mean, you cannot expect to be competitive with Lyon and Talbot as tandem of goalie. Pretty sure Ottawa will be much better with Ullmaek and New jersey with Marksttom. At ond point, you need to pay for a real goalie. Montembault would be okay at Tampa or Edmonton, but he remains a good second goalie

Dryden would get light up with this lineup.

I also feel he is overplaying Hutson. So far, Hutson reminds me of Mete in his early days, alot of flash and speed but also alot of fluff. Hopefully he will be sent down to develop or stay up with limited minutes.

The egregious simple coaching errors today were not benching the two defencemen that stopped skating before the 2nd goal thinking it was an auto icing. No accountability. Also not pulling Montembeault after the 3rd goal, which should never go in. At the very least, call a f***ing timeout. No, nothing. Just sit on my hands and pretend everything is okay thinking of my next proverb for the media.

Many teams don't respect Habs players and MSL doesn't seem to see that....That's why Xhekaj has to be in the lineup when there are bastard players like Truba, Kreider....
We went from being respected, tough as nails with Weber/chiarot/Edmundson/etc. Now we're creampuffs. More soft than the Dubas leafs. So brutal

I think if our current play and results keep up for a few more games, there's gonna be serious heat for a coaching change. I'm starting to get that spidey sense.

It's just unacceptable for us to be playing this poorly. Everyone looks lost in the D zone for multiple games in a row now.

I'm going to post something I posted elsewhere about Marty's system. If an amateur like me can shred his system, every team in the league is doing it to an even greater degree.

-----

Watch the goal simulations on the 1st, 5th and 6th goal. That's Marty's collapsing into a zone defense. Completely giving up on possession to "defend" the goal area.

The problem when you give up ALL the surrounding area and collapse that tightly is that there is no chance that you get control of the puck and you literally made the net a shooting gallery.

It is simply a lousy executed system and it's entirely, without a shred of an excuse, it's Marty's level of stupidity where he can't recognize the failure of his system.

There are so many tools, so much information that it baffles me how Marty and company can't see the results and failures of what he "teaches".

I'm beginning to believe that these "managers" have a tough time exceeding 80 IQ. MThead with his no possession trap and off the glass, BargainBin failure at managing the team, Marty's systemic stupidity...what's wrong with them? Why are we consistently getting the bottom of the barrel?

Due to the bad contracts still on the books, Hughes is handcuffed in acquiring the right veterans to spread through the lineup to properly insulate the young players. When all the veterans can't be slotted higher than the 3rd line, there is a problem. He is going to have to pay the price at the end of the season and move Anderson at half price with a pick to make room or the team will make the same mistakes Edmonton, Buffalo and Ottawa made. Say what you want about Detroit, but at least Yzerman surrounded his young players, and didn't rush the others, letting them develop in lower leagues.
It’s because of Josh Anderson's cap hit that our entire team isn't hard to play against. Gotcha.

His system is bad, or he just doesn't have the personal to understand it. Watching his system and there's too many moving parts and you cover different players(positions) depending on who gets into the zone.

You don't see a dman end up out at the point covering another dman too often in a system, but you see it namely with the Habs.

The Habs make no adjustments in game.

As everyone else has mentioned, there's no accountability except for a select few MSL doesn't like. It's usually the Habs two toughest players, too.

Like I mentioned in thr GDT when thr camera shows most other coaches they're doing something

What's MSL doing ? Just standing there.

He's been in charge of the PP for a bit and their play is terrible. It usually results in NO ONE screening the goalie.

And yeah putting the pairings and whatnot out is up to Robidas, too, but MSL can go and say "hey, don't play this/these players", but doesn't

Mailloux and Struble are rookies/young, so that not an icing call is somewhat acceptable because of their experience, but they, along with the rest of the team were hopefully told to skate hard until the whistle, as that play is pretty much an example of he Habs in general.

This isn't some all-star lineup that is under performing. This isn't a playoff team, but they should look better than they do.

This is once again another example of the team never being ready to go and letting the game get out of reach before the 1st period is done.

Unless he and this team do a massive 180 he really needs to go at the end of the season.

Once again, there's no improvement noticeable in the players.

This is bang on..................the game was lost, minutes in because of Marty and Monty....

Fair question. And there’s no way we can know. But we just saw an absolute train wreck of a decade where almost none of our prospects panned out.

There’s no doubt that almost - maybe all - of our prospects are progressing well. That’s more important than anything. Would it have happened with a different coach? Maybe. But another coach might’ve made things worse.

The team is constantly adding rookies. It’s not the same as last year or the year before and we’ve got half a dozen more rookies on the way. It’s a tall order to get the 2nd youngest club in the league to play like a well looked machine. Plus we’ve lost Laine, Roy is in the minors, Dach is making his way back…

Not an easy assignment for any coach.

huh? Slaf parked in front of the goalie face on every PP he was on where the Habs managed to acquire the ozone.
At times, then he'd wonder off and there'd be a 5 foot barrier where no hab was in there.

If you're going to battle, that's fine, but someone should be making a veeline straight for the front

All the Habs need to do now is have 2 players below the goal line on the PP to make it the envy of anyone who wants to run a terrible PP.

When your PP f***ing sucks, you do the basics. Pucks to the net, screen and get a dirty goal. Habs don't like to that. They do it and then go back to trying to be fancy.
