Well it is a Management that values Communication above results and MSL is in line with that. The Guy loses 9-2 and apparently discussed the difference between anger and disappointment in Post Game Interview.

They seem to think the issue is in small individual mistakes whereas it is a bigger issue, the team is simply poorly built. Management was dealt better cards than most teams entering a rebuild but Fans are acting as if it was a true tank like CHI or SJS.
They are young............I don't think they are poorly built.
They have NO idea on how to play in their own end....the system seems deeply flawed for this young team to understand. As a 5 man unit in their own end, what they are doing does not work, and it shows when they get blown out like last night.

MSL giving more TOI to Matheson, when he sucks is the biggest headscratcher for me.....

U mean like Slaf’s “regression” from Dec - end of last season? I take it you knew at the time of the Dach trade he would succumb to a major knee injury?

Barron was a dipshit in Col and remains a dipshit … I said it at the time of the trade HuGo dealt a heart & soul player for a player having nowhere close to same elite hunger trait

Oh yeah Habs have the 13 best record in the NHL since Nov 11…. hopefully Remembrance Day will jar some grey matter amongst the fanbase as the season moves fwd

Marty’s been brutal man. He has no system and the players have not been getting up for him the first first two months of the season. Losing games is one thing, how you lose them is another. There’s been far too many nights where effort has been in question from the whole group as a whole. I don’t care how young and inexperienced some of the guys may be in the NHL, they should not look lost when it comes to doing the most basic things of playing the game. That’s on St. Louis.

Zero standards
Zero accoutnability
Zero pride

This is a losing environment Hughes and Gorton have created Buffalo Sabres du Nord and (God forgive me) it seems they’ve done more damage than Bergevin in less than half the time.

MSL’s non-coaching is bad enough but he’s actively working to dismantle any professionalism we figured a pro hockey team should have.

The team doesn’t practice right, doesn’t develop players right, doesn’t rehab right, doesn’t play right, doesn’t give the right attitude. Completely delusional to think coaching isn’t a problem.
Okay there bud, just you wait until Montreal goes on an other 2 game winning streak....

There were a lot of opportunities to improve the team, and HuGo prioritized development and cap flexibility. So this is what we get this year:

- Primeau over Allen
- Barron over Kovacevic
- Passing on UFA's like Monahan, Montour, etc...
- Passing on available players like PLD (would his big body have helped or cannot hurt?) and Chychrun.

Giving a former offensive MVP, one who had no previous coaching experience, free rein to implement his vision of defence is just utterly baffling. It would only make sense if one wanted to restock the system with top draft picks.

To continue this hybrid man-on-man/zone coverage is utterly stubborn. When things don't work, you break things down to basics. Play the "dumb" system. On this squad, you have brain farts. What is the system that is more forgiving? Zone my friends.

My wish for Christmas is that they bring in an assistant coach to implement a functional zone defence that would completely change the farce that this game displayed. ... unless of course, the conspiracy theory that they are shooting for another top 5 pick is actually the truth.

If we get white washed in this game, time to think about a new head coach. This team pathetic defensively

Last nights game wasn’t a system / concept issue - a veteran Cup winning team who know how to win when it matters schooled a team w many young D.

But let’s be honest, Rust’s first two goals and goals 4 & 5 were not Team Canada G worthy … deflated & crushed a young inexperienced team

Truth is a lot of the improvement was supposed to come from within. But players are stagnating or regressing and we don't have the coaching staff in place to do something about it. MSL is literally a peewee coach.

So the problem is that they are executing a system that has no evidence of sustainability or prolonged success?

Management has egg on its face selling MSL as some up and coming coaching guru.

But I worry they feel the fall out would be too messy to make a change right now

I wish there was more transparency and accountability with what is going on.

I for one feel like my intelligence is being insulted as a fan… these are not natural growing pains we are witnessing, there is a real problem

I understand that you want to be optemistic and think that it's just normal pain for a rebuilding team but man.

Just by watching the games every one can see that there's something's rotten in the state of the Habs.

Giving Matheson PP1 after his performance as the veteran on the blueline last night is the opposite of what any rational person would do in that situation.

Just very difficult to support a lot of his decisions.

He's so often saying that he'd have to watch the tape before answering a question after the game that i really think he can't see live how bad a player is doing.........big big problem for a coach

Rebuilding team sucks, loud part of the fan base calling for the head of the coach.

More at 11.

I agree the goaltending was atrocious. But can ask Marty why he didn’t see after the 2nd period that Montembault was not tracking the puck and why he left him in when he saw that he was clearly off leaving our extremely shaky second string goalie to come in cold in the third period behind a deflated team? The coaching is bad. There’s no defending some of the decisions he’s making. They’re bad in every area. I’m a random HF poster and I could make better on the spot decisions then he can.

It’s more like we want some accountability for the players, which MSL seems to not really prioritize. He needs to embrace that he’s their coach, not friend. He’s not a player. He’s management. The players are your employees, not your buddies.
