Coach firing snowball effect.

With Maclean fired, will there be a few firings right away, in an attempt to land Maclean?

Maclean was a quality coach and has very good systems and well like by his players.

Maclean follows in the mould of Pat Quinn, Roger Neilson and Pat Burns. Yikes, just realized the fate of those coaches I mentioned. I mean Maclean with the same respect as those guys.

I doubt he will be out of a job for more than 3 weeks.

So, in your opinion, will this be an excuse for another GM to pull the plug on their coach because of Macleans availability? I think most coaches have held on to their jobs because no one of quality was available.

Usually, this time of year, there are an average of 3 coach firings.

Who do you think will be next to go and do you think Maclean will get the spot vacant?

You're allowed to pursue somebody for a position before that position is vacant. No reason to fire your head coach, if you want him talk to him, if you come to an agreement fire the head coach, if you don't then you don't have a giant gaping hole where your head coach used to be.

Has that ever actually happened? A coach got fired and a team was so exuberant about his availability that they fired their own coach just to scoop him up?

I am almost sure of it, I am just googling it now but I remember a few years ago, for 2 years in a row, the chain reactions happened.

also, there have been about 5 in the last 7 years, where a coach was hired immediately. Give me a few minutes and I will have some names unless someone beats me to it. I am pretty sure Bruce Boudreau was hired right after Carlyle.

edit: Oops, I just saw 2 guys already mentioned Boudreau

DeBoer can **** off up the model village. (anyone seen Hot Fuzz?)

Seriously though. I would be happy to have Anderson Cooper behind the bench if it means DeBoer is gone.

Flyers and Leafs maybe.

I doubt the Oilers will being that they seem content to keep Eakins judging by their press conference the other day.

Bill Peters might not be safe and Maclean would be a great fit there.

I would guess you haven't been following senators very closely.

Yeah, I liked Maclean and wish he still had a job with this team but his systems weren't anything to rave about especially Dzone. I have no idea why he didn't adjust his defensive system this season. They played a very passive style and it was clear it wasn't working and he failed to adjust.

Eakins has been told he is safe for a little while. He will get the chance to have his youth mature a bit.

scapegoat there.

sens players and fans loved him

Personally I liked him but if you go wander over to the sens board you will see the majority didn't. I didn't agree with them but you are wrong there.

There's some evidence that a few players didn't like him, and the fans were turning on him pretty quickly.

Fans will turn on a coach very quickly when a team starts losing. The leafs are content now with being a few games over 500 but wanted to string Carlyle up by the short and curly's after the 9-2 loss.

For the most part, most players and most fans liked him.

Of course there will be a few players and a few fans not like him.

Reminds me of Nolan. Just off a Jack Adams and fired.

Maclean didn't all of a sudden suck a year later. Some common sense here would be good.

As for systems, you can see during practices that he was attempting to run systems, but sometimes players don't buy in. (Hello Karlson)

But those same fans liked him when they were winning.

Jack Adams a year ago and all of a sudden he forgot how to coach?

Naw, I blame the players.

All I know is that with potentially Babcock and now Maclean available around the summer time Carlyle needs to win AT LEAST one round in the playoffs to be coaching this team next year.

I completely agree. Most on the leafs boards seem to think Babs will be the next Leafs coach, but management just extended him. Go figure.

I personally think Peters is on the hot seat now. Perhaps columbus may be a Maclean destination also.
