hindsight 20/20

The argument at the time was more between KK and Zadina...... MANY many people didnt like Tkachuk at #3. Fact.

Hughes was nowhere in the convo at #3.

Not saying Bergevin was great or anything, but what I stated above is true.
What was also a fact was that kotkaniemi was considered a “reach” at #3

Kotkaniemi surged up the rankings, and I think everyone wondered just how far a C with his size and shot could realistically fall.

I do remember being baffled that the Habs left Zadina on the board. Zadina busting is just such a bummer tbh.

Looking back on these rankings, it's hard for me to figure out why Dobson fell. He was the complete package even at that age.

I'd legitimately swap Quin Hughes for Noah Dobson as a Canucks fan...but i do understand why he's the prevailing favourite here. He's a hugely dynamic presence that has completely reshaped the Vancouver blueline, and manages to do so while playing with absolute scraps.

I can also see the argument for Dahlin, who seems like he may actually be finding his footing as an NHLer and shrugging off the Sabres development problems. I can see pitch for a couple other guys too...but Dobson to me, looks like a potential future Norris Contender. He has all the tools and is on track to develop into such a complete all-around defenceman.

Hughes easily here. He and Seider are close imo for first spot. What Hughes accomplished last year paired with Luke Schenn was really impressive.
Dahlin is my third choice. I think he’s finding his footing.
All three will benefit as the teams in front of them improve.
Lots of great young D that we can enjoy for years plus Makar who just missed the age cut off by a year. The future looks bright!

I dunno if Id say it was a reach, he climbed in the rankings quite a bit in the last few months leading up, from what I remember.... So yes it was taking a risk to some degree, and then again, if they chose Zadina was it any better?

To me a reach was like taking Barrett Hayton at #5 or Seider at #6 when they were expected to go mid-late 1st round. Just that example shows how much these "reaches" can work out and some do not at all.

Scheifele was also a reach at #8.... Zach Senyshyn at #15

I voted for Miller because Dahlin and Byram are not better players than him right now and I'm taking it upoon myself to get the ball rolling. Thanks for the add, OP.

Hughes is a fair selection.

I see he is in his last ELC year. What are you expecting him to sign for?

Too much!

Honestly the Rangers probably bridge him at something like 2.5m x 2 because Kreider and Trouba slide to ten-team M-NTC's in summer of 2024 and they can be cleared at that point.

It'll cost us more in the long-run as he could easily command a huge contract with two more years under his belt and UFA status, but we literally can't afford to ink him to his big boy deal now barring something creative and unforeseen.

I could see a bridge, but 2.5 is really low even for RFA years, no? Considering his peer group and the cap news yesterday, I would have to imagine it's closer to 3.5-4. Dobson got 4 on his bridge.

The Rangers are notorious for lowballing their RFA's and they usually win. I've heard it's a pretty great organization to play for even as they disappoint on the ice.

he has zero clue if he think his bridge would be 2.5 a year

First you voted for him because your a Ranger fan. Not because he’s the best of these guys.

Second, you think he is the best player and will get 2.5 mil on a bridge deal? Do you know how bridge deals work?
