A 20 year old playing close to 18 minutes a game for a good KHL team is a long shot?

Anyone who has seen me post in the CBJ prospect section has seen me gush over Gavrikov and constantly say he should be over here already and be bottom pairing for us. He is a shutdown down stud. 2 years removed from best D in the WJC while scoring 0 points which goes to show you his shutdown ability. No way we trade him right now.

Why would he leave good KHL team to play for Jackets in minors?

Anytime you draft a Russian kid late it is a longshot he comes over
Your opinion is noted. Given that this is Chicago, tho, y'all can just go ahead and wait for our rights to expire before you try to drag him over Panarin style. ;)

It's not a bad proposal... And I don't disagree with this sentiment at all. Correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't Gavrikov named top D at WJC in 2015? I would say he's progressing well, but it is a question of whether he will ever come over. I guess the assumption would be that the blackhawks would have more room for him as a 6/7 sooner than the jackets?

I dunno. It's interesting. Not sure what what mcneil really brings to the jackets though...

McNeill cleared waivers last month. why would the jackets give up anything when they could have had him for nothing?

This gets overplayed. The list of legitimate NHL quality players who choose to stay in the KHL is not long.

If Gavrikov develops into a player who would be a top-4 defenseman in the NHL, then there is a good chance he'll come over. If he's a marginal NHL'er, then he'll likely be staying in the KHL.

That's still a better bet than McNeill.

Yes he was the top D the year before Werenski and he did it without registering a single point. He is the definition of shut down defenseman and is only 21 I think. The jackets are likely waiting for after JJs contract is up or after the expansion draft if he is taken to bring him over. I think the KHL is better to develop him for now until he is NHL ready. In my opinion he is our best D prospect because Werenski graduates/graduated this year. After him it's Carlsson Kukan and Nutivaara. So if after the draft JJ is gone we could have a top 6 of:

Jones-Werenski
Murray-Savard
Carlsson-Gavrikov
Nutivaara or Kukan

That bottom pairing could be as good of a shutdown down pairing as any team has in the league the way those 2 play.

Basically no reason to trade Gavrikov at all unless we are getting a C prospect with the same pedigree.

don't see either side biting, as CBJ is high on the Russian and CHI not wanting to lose depth for if an injury occurs. Interesting sentiment, though CHI would win the trade if it happens

What about Dalton Prout? :sarcasm:

Jarmo is on record as saying that he is really only interested in trading for Girardi. If that gets us there, I would do it.

I follow almost every major reporter/analyst on social media for the CBJ and the rest of the league.. I have never once heard anything or have saw anything about us being interested in Girardi... link?

You need a link for that? Next thing you know people will ask for a link to know that the sky is blue.

Of course Jarmo only wants Girardi, everybody knows that. Most in demand player, certainly fits the Jackets needs with his exemplary transition play.

Blackhawks keep McNeill, if Columbus wanted him they would have claimed him.

I'm confused I know j2f is a person that is known for sarcasm but major is normally more serious... but im going to assume both joking here. It's only co.fusing because Girardi is playing decent this year but it's still impossible to move him because the expansion so unlikely.

I believe this speaks to the quality of the proposal(s).

Didn't McNeill clear waivers? Why would the Jackets trade a prospect with some upside for a dime a dozen player?
