Around the NHL - Part 1 [MOD: Other Team News Goes Here]

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Final thought on 4 Nations, my Men's golf group here in Arizona today had half the group talking about the great games they watched this week in hockey. I'm not sure in 15 years playing in this group I had as many hockey conversations as I had this week ?? Home run for
League.

A real eye opener for me was that my dad, who constantly makes fun of hockey (and makes fun of me for liking hockey) actually watched Thursday night’s game. I actually even had a brief conversation with him about the game yesterday. He says he’ll now probably watch the USA games at next year’s Olympics.

He’s not exactly likely to ever turn into an NHL fan though, especially because he lives in Arizona and the Coyotes are now gone.

The 9.5 million households in North America that watched the final would agree.

Blackhawks get Spencer Knight and a 1st (conditional) for Seth Jones.

I think both teams benefitted there (as long as Chicago doesn't fubar it.).

Mikey Eyssimont and two first round picks (2026 and 2027) to Seattle for Oliver Bjorkstrand and Yanni Gourde. Interesting.

Edit: Bolts also send Seattle Toronto's 2025 2nd, and get Seattle's 2026 5th.

Getting the band back together....damn Yanni Gourde is 33? I am so old.

I started truly feeling old when one year on the Coyotes there was only one player on the entire roster who was older than me. I thought it was Niklas Hjalmarsson, but I checked and I'm older than him, so it was probably Brad Richardson. I'm now older than the entire Utah roster.

Always liked the player, really happy for him! Navigated a prolonged, legitimately terrible situation with absolute class. Having a good year statistically as well, quick look shows 3rd in defensive goal scoring and top 20 in points despite averaging just under 21 minutes a night (a lot lower than most of the players ahead of him).

I'll be cheering for the Caps this year in the playoffs, hopefully he's able to get a cup at some point

(edited to include Chychrun's stats)

Good for Chych, he has been through a lot and is having a good year, glad he is getting paid well! Having said that, this is a huge risk with the 8 year term and his injury history, I personally would never do that kind of term for him.

It'll be a great contract if he can stay healthy (which is a big if) and keeps up the level of play he's been having this season.

He's also a bit of a weirdo as a person apparently. A few years ago I remember there was news floating around (which I discovered via a main boards thread about it) that he ate crazy things like raw beef liver. Also, funnily enough, on Discord someone mentioned that apparently his new "thing" is that he doesn't want to have any lightbulbs in his house, right before the news about his contract extension dropped.

He's been healthy for over two years now. He has proved himself. 8 yrs. is a long time for any player, but the way it looks that is more the norm than than the exception.

Speaking of weirdo's. Scissors in the microwave? ;)

Actually it's funny I just learned that today. Here's the Craig Morgan article about the beef liver stuff (from 2022): How the Coyotes are showcasing Jakob Chychrun - PHNX Sports

And apparently the lightbulb thing was from Dylan Strome, I guess they roomed together in AZ and obvi are teammates in WSH right now.

RMNB is a Caps fan site, imo one of the better ones in the league. So yeah, a bit of a weirdo but certainly a well-paid one

Chych wanted out. Good choice for him.
I remember him originally wanting to stay but with BA year long evaluation didn't think he was core. Then he was treated like crap for a year and traded for a very low value. Let me do some digging while waiting for food.
