I don't really buy this. Who has made an app that would be good or even ok at this stuff???

I mean this isn't farfetched at all. I'm guessing most, if not all, teams have internal apps/webapps that present a centralized way to see many metrics of how a club evaluates players, draft picks, contracts, cap moves, etc. I swear this board get dumber every year.
Exactly this…Jimmy Johnson had a draft pick value board and is lauded for it…

If a team didn’t have some sort of computer program and/or app for a GM to easily compare how their organizations valued players and draft picks, that would be the outrage…

if it's an app written by their analytical team and scouts and analysts feed the app with data, it might be quicker than gather everybody to get their feedback on certain players.

This is one of those pile-ons where people start accusing the subject of doing normal things.

"I heard he uses a calculator, eww"

If your GM isn't using technology then you should be more concerned.
The problem isn't using technology. It's using bad technology, or having good technology but misapplying it - both of which are far more common in business than I think anyone wants to believe.

Sounds like a guy I know who bought a system to help him win the lotto in the 80's.

I still don't think he has recouped.

While things can be mapped out with advanced analytics, there are certain elements that just need to be "fleshed" out....and others no matter what are just a matter of chance.

So appearently Chuck Fletcher has admitted that he uses an app in order to determine trades. I wonder if he does the same when it comes to re-signing and signing players?

This would explain a lot!

I used chatgpt to help write my masters thesis so why not?

If it helps compare multiple players and scenarios with up to date data, I don't see a problem, especially if you are having to make an on the spot decision or miss an opportunity.

I'm actually fairly sure I know what app it is...and it's really quite impressive. Like anything that reduces things to a singular value, it has flaws...but if it's the app that I know of, it's very good and multiple NHL teams subscribe to it.

20 years ago I came across a hockey stats application that didn’t quite fit my needs, so I wrote my own (Hence I forget it’s name). So it’s it very likely that there are far more comprehensive applications out there now, probably including bespoke IP belonging to the teams. Very naive to think there is nothing out there covering this stuff.
