Chris Kreider has 2.5 more years on his contract with an AAV of $6.5MM. He turns 34 in late April 2025. He's a 6'3 230 lbs LW. He is now a healthy scratch and that will be a hard one to smooth over for a former 50 goal scorer.

Josh Manson has 1.5 more years on his contract with an AAV of $4.5MM. He turns 34 in October 2025. He's a 6'3 220 lbs RHD. He's likely to be back with the Avs next game.

Miles Wood has 4.5 years on his contract with an AAV of $2.5MM. He turns 30 in Sept 2025. He's a 6'2. 215 lbs LW. He'll likely be back in early January.

Chris Kreider + Urho Vaakanainen for Josh Manson + Miles Wood + Rangers 2025 2nd round pick. Does anyone add and if so.. add what to make the deal pencil?

For the Avs purposes, this deal also signifies Gabriel Landeskog's NHL career is effectively over.

No. We can't trade veterans away for different veterans. If we are blowing this up, it's to rebuild and tear it down to the studs. You don't tear out the walls so you can hang old 70s paneling from someone else's remodel job.

The Avs would be thin on the back end without Manson. A guy like that is huge in the playoffs too.
NHL teams always need to rob Peter to pay Paul in a hard salary cap league that strives for parity.

This trade makes the Avs harder to play against up front and better at scoring. Also some insurance if/when Nuke goes AWOL again.

The Avs need the net front presence when their talents like MacKinnon, Makar, Toews, Mitts and Rantanen play more of a perimeter game. When they don't have one of Nuke or Landy on the team... they suck.. no chance to win playoff series without one of those two scoring goals within 15 feet of the net.

Krieder is also a strong and swift skater. That type of speed would be simpatico on a fast team like the Avs.

You think a team that just went long on Alexis Lafrenière & Igor Shesterkin is going to blow it up? Come on man...

You're entitled to your own opinion, but you are not going to be in alignment with the Rangers brass on that opinion of yours and you know it. Drury isn't tearing that team down. You're not about to enter a major rebuild.

There is not much chance an established dman gets moved for the Avs, unless it’s packaged for an upgrade at that same position. Our forwards need health/upgrades but it will be at the expense of picks/prospects/fringe players and not the established d core I think.

Building a hockey team isn’t contract labor. Plenty of teams retool around a veteran core

Avs say no. Trade just doesn't make any sense for them.
My trade assumes Nuke will do what he does and drop another nuke on his NHL career between now and the 2nd round of the NHL playoffs.

If you assume that rather likely outcome... Does it still not make any sense for the Avs?

Assume the Avs find themselves with neither of Nuke or Landy come March 1st. Because you and I both know there is a much better than 50% chance we'll be reading Avs line-up reports later this year and it will read.

Scratched - Nuke (undisclosed).

There’s nothing to suggest that right now. It seems like he’s in the best place mentally that he’s been for a while and knows that he has all eyes on him with potential contract termination on the line.

I’ve messed up in life sometimes and repeated the same mistake multiple times, but after getting burned bad enough I never repeated them again.

People with your mindset piss me the f*** off! Either you’ve lived an extremely sheltered life or have no actual life experience.

Is there a chance he f***s up again…sure. However, you’re pretty much guaranteeing that he will, which is just ignorant.

If Drury gets out of this season with his job it will be the biggest win of his career, including the Stanley Cup and the LLWS.

If their goaltending trades prove to be moot, might as well. If you can't get decent goaltending, bring your opponents down to your level. Just ask Blues fans :sarcasm:

0 interest. Really does nothing for the Rangers, who aren't going to be competing this year. A futures-based package for a possibly retained Kreider would make more sense.

I don’t think either team would want this deal.

For the Rangers, if they’re blowing it up, they want younger players and/or prospects and picks.

For the Avs, removing Manson causes a huge hole. A #4 D is more important than Kreider who would be somewhere between our 6th-8th best forward.

Is it?

How good is Manson? How good is Wood?

Be honest.

I understand that Krieder is having a down year. Big time down. Krieder is struggling and now he's a healthy scratch.

But ask yourself the same question about Manson. And Wood.

Kreider is 33 and it could be more than a down year. The Avs could use a net front guy but that contract and possible descent is not a game of musical chairs that I want the Avs to play.

Also, Manson has flaws but he’s also something the Avs have little of. If anything they could add someone of a similar ilk. I also think you’re underrating how Manson is valued. They’d probably get something more valuable if traded alone.

The Avs needs are a crease clearing D and a possibly a middle 6 C.

He's got a lot on the line... But he had a lot on the line last time he went AWOL.

Even you'd probably admit there is better than a coin toss chance Nuke doesn't make it to this time next season. And his next suspension is 1 year with no guarantee of reinstatement.

Why does it seem like he's in a best place mentally? He seems exactly the same. His ability isn't in question. His impact not in question. Nuke has been a great player for the Avs pretty much every game he's been in uniform. He didn't have wild swings in play. His play and impact have been consistent. And he's gone AWOL many times while playing great hockey. Wasn't he leading the playoffs in points when he bailed on the Avs last postseason?

The guy's play does not change. It doesn't swing from high to low and back.

But he does have a major addiction problem.

I may be underestimating Manson's value, but are you underestimating Manson's flaws.

Be honest. Who has been better this year. Malinski or Manson. They are not similar players other than being R shot, but which one would you want to have more TOI this year? Which one is giving the Avs more?

If Kreider can return to form or some sort of form he had the past three years... he's a better player than Manson and by quite some margin in my mind.

If Drury gets out of this season with his job it will be the biggest win of his career, including the Stanley Cup and the LLWS.
funny... but you still didn't answer the question.

Drury may get fired, but if he does... the new GM still isn't likely to pursue a tear down given the long term contracts you have in place with an elite goalie in his prime and LaF. As well as extensions coming for K Miller and Schneider. The Rangers are in no position to tear it down. They'll try to retool. You and I both know this is far more likely than a firesale.
