Tarheel will be there, he needs to give play by plays.

I will say that I like going there for games, the arena just gives you the old hockey feel. The team plays great there too.

I used to live in Charlotte. I went to a Checkers game once, after having been conditioned by about 227 NHL games.

I wore a Canes jersey (this was after they moved to the AHL, so it made sense). The first time they scored, I jumped up on my feet and screamed like I would have in Raleigh. Then I looked around and realized I was the only one that actually got out of his seat to applaud. My friends were staring at me. I quietly sat back down.

It was weird. Also, go Checkers.

Was it at TWC or Bojangles Arena?

TWC. They didn't move to Bo's until a year or two after I left, which was in 2013. This was probably a year or so before that.

Edit: Also, go look at the Ice Caps thread. I worked very hard answering your question, damn it.

Hey Tarheel... how's the building?

TBH I forgot about this thread yesterday, so I posted in the sticky Checkers thread. Bottom line: great place to see a game. It's still an old-feeling building but not dingy like a Dorton.

This was not the case last night. The atmosphere was pretty good for a lightly attended game (which minor league playoff games usually are).

Part of it is simply playoff atmosphere and the fact that it was a close physical game. But I think they've got a somewhat different crowd now that they're back on the east side. I wore a mid-90s Checkers jersey and spotted a couple of others who had the same one, just on the side of the building that I could see. We're talking about multiple people wearing a 20 year old ECHL jersey in a crowd of like 4000. That says something.

But yeah, the crowd was in it. Per capita it was a lot louder than PNC.
