Fleury has never been far below TVR, and other than experience I don’t know that he is at all now. When Rod made the decision at the beginning of last season he flat out said they both played the same in camp but that TVR was the vet so he gets the nod. Even if it meant TVR started on the wrong side back then.

Last year shouldn’t have happened to Fleury, and hopefully this is just a rotation and it’s not happening again. Can’t tell what this is going to be like off of one game decision.

At what point does Fleury ask for a trade? He’s been, in my eyes, a 3rd pair guy since the 17-18 season. He’s been mishandled the org since then. To think he hasn’t asked for a move yet is somewhat surprising.

At worst he’s cheap insurance as a 7th D, but sitting him for TVR does does nothing for his development.

I pretty strongly agree about being mishandled. It wasn’t his fault we couldn’t get Faulk traded before last season and the inability to do that almost cost us Pesce and definitely set back Fleury who had already proven himself at the NHL level the year before. I like what Edmunson brings for sure but if he’s gone next year I don’t want to lose Fleury because of his presence now.

Again hopefully it’s just rotation. Have to think with the rumors of us looking for another forward one of our bottom three guys could be included though.

I'm not sure mishandled is the right description- he just hasn't been good enough in a lot of situations. He's been pretty shaky even as a highly sheltered bottom pairing D whenever he's been in the NHL. He's been better this year, but not exactly blowing the doors off- and when you're comparing track records, TVR has a much longer track record of non-shaky play.

On a lot of teams he is a typical bottom pairing guy. On a contending team with a really deep D like the Canes, he's a 7th D at best. If he wants playing time, he'd be on the second pair in Ottawa. But would you want to play in Ottawa in a big role or play in Carolina in a small role? And while we may keep thinking about development, this is his D+5 year. He's 23. Not ancient by any means, but past the time when most players break through and show whether they're NHLers or not. At some point, he is what he is and you can't just handwave his flaws away with 'development' anymore.

The key for the game is getting Haula’s group out there against Toews, Nylander, Seabrook, or Keith at even strength. The blackhawks xGF% without those 4 on the ice is 66. Toews and Nylander on the ice together has a xGF% of 26.2.

He made the team last year. Rod said the words that he was taking the vet over the kid. He’s been good enough. I think any shakiness I’ve seen in him has been over these two seasons when his usage was sporadic, and that was cleared up as soon as he was trusted more and allowed to settle into a role. Doesn’t matter what +year he is when we sent him down and he lost a year of development when he was good enough to stay.

If we don’t want to say mishandled we should at least have to say his development has been hijacked a bit. He’s played good enough to be here.

If we can't dominate and beat Hawks now at home, we really sucks

I'm not trying to tell anyone how to "fan," but if this is your mindset, I can't imagine having any fun watching the games. It's an NHL game not early-season college basketball. The Canes are a consensus -190 favorite. That means the implied probability is less than 66.67 percent. Which, incidentally, is *very* high for an NHL game. And even so, there's a 1 in 3 chance we lose. No NHL game is ever a gimme, and to go into one with the mindset that nothing less than domination and a win is acceptable, is a great way to be chronically disappointed.

I, personally, much prefer the "survive and advance" theory in pro sports. Every game is a challenge for one reason or another. When you work hard enough to win one, enjoy it, and move to the next one. Take nothing for granted.

I like the Canes' chances today, but I wouldn't bet them. The Hawks are coming off their worst effort of the season in a home loss to Philly and they're pissed. They are probably looking at this road game as a chance to get on track without the pressure that's starting to build in Chicago. The Canes have looked awful their past five, and Mrazek isn't exactly a tower of strength.

Gambling-wise, this game is a hard pass. If you forced me at gunpoint to pick a side, I'll take CHI, only because the number is so high on CAR. But I think Carolina will find a way.

Fleury should ask for a trade. It is getting ridiculous the way the team is mishandling young players.

To say Fleury was "mishandled" in any way is pure bullsh!t. And to claim it's part of a pattern of mishandling young players is so far off base, I'm not even sure if we're talking about the same team.

If Fleury and Gauthier (whom I assume is the other "evidence" for mishandling young players) were good enough to be in the NHL, THEY'D BE IN THE NHL. We have the youngest team in the league, worked in three rookies last season (Foegele, Svech and Wallmark, all of whom *earned* their ice time with their play) and sent out two (Necas and Fleury) because they weren't ready. This year, Necas clearly belongs, and he's here getting a regular shift, despite growing pains.

Jordan Staal is our only regular forward older than 28. What the hell else do you want?

Fleury and Gauthier aren't here because they aren't ready. Fleury has had *year-after-year* of chances to show that he's better than our worst defenseman and he's yet to clear that very, very, exceedingly low hurdle. He's clearly shown that he's a seventh d-man, and we're treating him as such. How is that mismanagement?

I’ve already made the argument why. Your bold lettering doesn’t make me feel obligated to explain it again. There’s very obvious reasons why he wasn’t here more last year and seemingly the same reason exists now, or it’s a rotation.

I never said a word about Goat so don’t lump me in with all that. I think Goat is fine in minors.
