To Chicago:
:hawks
-Evgeni Dadonov
-2022 2nd round pick
-2023 3rd round pick

To Vegas:
:vegas
-2023 4th round pick

Since the trade with Anaheim will be nixed, Vegas will need to get Dadonov off the books by sending him to a non-playoff team. Chicago will take on the contract for a fee.

Vegas has to take back players that are on LTIR or else it defeats the purpose. Sure they gain 5 mil in cap space but thats not enough to bring back Stone or Martinez.

Kelser and John Moore worked out perfectly as they could maximize their LTIR to the tune of almost 9 millions dollars.

Question. Does Vegas get a re-set on a Dadonov trade to a team (not on his list), if the original trade is nixed?

Its still not 5 mil though. Just under.

If a 3rd team needs to be involved, the Canucks have Micheal Ferland at 3.5M, and Brandon Sutter at 1.125M -- neither are coming back.

Tucker Poolman is also on LTIR at 2.5M, but timeline of a return is unknown.

There is no stopping any team form making trades past the deadline. The player sent in the trade can't play. Vegas can made a trade with any team and include Dadonov, however the goal was to bring cap space which now really limits trading partners and teams might not want to put Dadonov in a situation where he can't play.

Incorrect. Trading for a player who is on LTIR changes nothing about Vegas' cap situation. The only thing that will clear cap for them is to trade a player who isn't on LTIR and not take back any players who aren't on LTIR.

My apologies. I was thinking of LTIR the wrong way. Chicago can trade for Dadonov but he just cant play for the rest of this season if they trade for him.

Well, it seems more reasonable than all the "vegas must pay an excessive number of 1sts/high picks because we have them in a spot" hyperbole being bandied about...

What taking players back who are on LTIR does is help the team acquiring Dadonov by removing salary from their books and transferring it to Vegas's books. If Dadonov's $5 million are added to a team and $5 million in LTIR from other teams are added to Vegas, the net flow of cash is 0 assuming the LTIR contract isn't insured. Vegas would probably happily take extra LTIR salary back to offset some of the draft/prospect capital they will need to trade to make this happen. Adding LTIR salaries does nothing to create more space for Vegas.
