Good for both sides, really nice to get a decent pick back in the deal.

Mikheyev is a good player & has more offense than what he showed. Lafferty is useful too if they can keep him.

Great upside for Chicago in this move but the opportunity cost was too great for Vancouver not to do it.

If Mikheyev can get his skating back Chicago could do ok here. Not sure how long he went without a goal this season but at one time it was up to 34 games even playing a lot in the top 6.
Canucks need the cap space and can’t afford the risk that he never bounces back and doesn’t contribute offensively.
Chicago can afford that risk.
Good deal for both teams.

is it though?

He gets a fresh start and will probably get a chance to play with Bedard. He'll have every chance to bounce back

Correct.
Imo it is. He has a legit chance to win the Stanley cup. I get that this is good for his play time but he can still turn things around in Vancouver and be a key piece for them.

1. The players will hate his guts if he doesn't waive and shows up as anything less than playing at the absolute top of his game.

2. He wants another deal and he's already getting 4th line ice and healthy scratched in van. It'll be far more lucrative for him to play top 6 minutes in Chicago than stay on a team where the players resent him and the coach has already been healthy scratching him and putting him on the 4th line.

lol the players will not hate his guts if he doesn't waive. Guy negotiated that clause in good faith and if the team regrets it that is on the team and not the player. I doubt there would be a single player in that room that would fault him for using his negotiated right if he chose too.
