Hahaha, what year was that going around the most? Been so long I'd like to see who was actually available in the 2nd round that year (or the next).
Would have been either '06-07 or '07-08, I think. If it were the former, PK Subban was the guy that was drafted with that pick, if it were the latter Danny Kristo would have been the lost player.
So, better hope it was '07-08, I guess. There were a handful of good players taken after Kristo, but what are the odds the team receiving the 2nd would have used it on one of those guys?

Micheal Ryder and Jaroslav Halak were teammates in Montreal for 2 seasons (2006-07 and 2007-08) but Halak wasn’t a full time NHL player yet(16 games in 06–07 and 6 games 07-08). He broke in full time in 2008-09 but by then Ryder was already in Boston. This means it presumably would have been a 2nd for the 2007 or 2008 draft.

Montreal picked 43rd in 2007 (P.K. Subban), with the only other notable 2nd rounder after them being Wayne Simmonds (61st).

Montreal picked 56th in 2008 (Danny Kristo), with the only other 2nd rounder to appear in the NHL after them being Jimmy Hayes (60th).

The first year it could have been a thing was 06-07. If that was the year, Montreal actually selected PK Subban with their 2nd in 07.

Thanks for the prompt answers fellas, definitely no guarantee who would have gotten picked.

I would like to see Rolston's son make it if that's still in the cards. We remember his classic winks during interviews over in NJ.

It could have been any period from 03-04 through 07-08. Halak was drafted really late in '03 but had a breakout season in 03-04. Ryder was the calder runnerup in 03-04 as a 23 year old rookie. I dunno at what point it was ever a serious proposal as nobody can seem to spot an origin of it. But Price was drafted in 05, and that likely made Halak always viewed as expendable. Ryder continued along where he was at after the Lockout. So really any point in the late 00s up through 07-08 when the Habs had a 104 point team it could have been a thing.

He’s not one of the kids living on his dad’s name. He’s gonna have a couple more years on an NHL contract, to try making a name for himself as a 4th line player in the league. He does everything right. He just needs that extra second, that gets in the way of most players ever making the NHL.

Chicago is gonna need some contract spots coming up. So they did him a solid, and found somewhere he can keep pushing for his dream.
