For the 2nd time since 2003, the Canes will be playing a game without Eric Staal as a member of the Hurricanes and this time, the team knows that going in. Also, with Ryan, McGinn and Murphy called up, that means there are 10 guys on the current Canes roster that either started this season with the Checkers or came through and spend significant time with the Checkers 6 guys started the season in Charlotte or spent most of this season there: Ryan, McGinn, Murphy, PDG, Slavin, Pesce (I realize Slavin and Pesce didn't spend much time there). 4 guys that came through the checkers and spent significant time there in years past: Rask, Nash, Terry, Jordan.

If you exclude guys that played in the AHL in the last couple of lockouts, is this the highest number of players on the NHL roster that were associated with/came through their farm club?

Will update line-up when we have a clue what it will look like.

EDIT: Lines from GP below.

Lines based on this morning's skate

Nordstrom - Staal - Lindholm
Skinner - Rask - Di Giuseppe
Gerbe - Nash - Malone
McGinn - Ryan - Terry

Slavin - Hainsey
Hanifin - Pesce
Jordan - Murphy

I'm going to guess we see

53 49 16
42 11 15
34 Ryan 23
14 20 25

Can't be. 15 is out for the season, 20 may or may not be injured

If Nash is in but McClement is still out, going to guess:

53-49-16
42-11-34
14-20-25
23-Ryan-24

Although 23/14 and 20/Ryan could swap.

Hainsey-Slavin
Hanifin-Pesce
Jordan-Murphy

I plan on it. Even though it should be tough to watch, from a hockey standpoint, I want to see how some of these guys do now.

How can that top line do, now that it's a top line?
How does Hanifin do with more responsibility?
Will Murphy still be a dumpster fire? :sarcasm:
How will Ryan look?

Plenty of reasons for me to want to watch.

I will watch. But I will watch it on a delay long enough to skip intermissions and commercials as is my custom when the season is lost. It's really a lot less miserable when you can condense it into a little over an hour than spending 2 and half hours listening to Tripp blather on about how great the future looks or what Luciano DiGuiseppe is wearing tonight.

It would be interesting to compare it to the worst night at the end of the 2002-2003 season.

For the record, according to the Hurricanes site, Ryan will wear #33 when he's with the big club. Other famous Hurricanes to wear this number:

Totally blanked on the Nesty injury. For what it's worth, I'd rather see Ryan and McGinn play on that 3rd line, but it's more or less semantics.

Playoff odds down to 2.5%.

One 8-game winning streak and we're right back in the mix.

So you're telling me there's a chance...

I'll watch the young guys develop against some teams that actually have some offensive talent. I really cannot stand the Devils -- someone needs to buy them and move them to Las Vegas, so we never have to play them.

I'm a little surprised to see Ward get the start after Sunday...

Let's tank for that draft position.

Nah, they'll struggle just naturally with that line-up. Still, realistically, there might be 2-3 teams the Canes can "catch" at best. They are currently in 21st place and maybe they get to 23rd or 24th.

Carolina: 66 pts, 64 games
MTL: 65 pts, 63 games
Van: 61 pts, 60 games

Beyond that you have:
AZ: 60 points, 63 games
CLB: 60 points, 64 games

i think with the new lottery setup each ping pong ball becomes that much more valuable, finishing with the 6th or 7th overall pick is far more promising than 10th or 11th
