So I realize his stats aren't showing it yet, being a -1 over 3 games with no points, but he;s looked really good so far.

At what point does another RHD get sent off? He didn't have much of a chance last year, and it looks like Vancouver may have botched his development, or not known what they had. It's only been 3 games but he has been really impressive so far this year. He looked really good last night as well. He's a steal right now on his 762K salary.

So far I've seen no reason to pull him off the 3rd pair.

I never realized the guy was this good. I get he's 26, maybe a late developer? Maybe I'm reading too much into it too early, but I don't remember seeing this out of him before.

If they could move Bear, I think they would, but evidently no teams are interested in giving up a 2nd/3rd for him without sending salary back. I wasn’t overly impressed with Coghlan last night to be honest, only one game though. They can’t perma-scratch Bear, so I’d imagine he gets in a game soon.

8 NHL D isn’t the worst problem to have. Like has been said before, injuries will happen. We’ll probably see Lagesson at stretches this season as well.

Chatfield has wheels, but he still seems pretty raw to me in terms of actually being able to defend. I’ll say though, that he hasn’t looked out of place so far in 13-14mins a night.

I’m curious, does Coghlan have any history of playing the left side?

Given the uptick in competition over the next two games in Alberta, I expect we'll see De Haan rotate back in and Chatfield on the right side for those. I'd be a bit surprised if Rod chose one of those games as Bear's first game or to have Coghlan on his off hand again.

Can't move bear because he's over priced.

And yeah. You can staple his ass to the press box. At this point he's the worst option of the 4,and the highest paid. What a shame. I get the QO to protect the asset, but he's not worth it.

I haven’t stayed up for any of the west coast games but the lineup card showed Coghlan on the left and Chatfield on the right last night. Was it actually reversed?

I think that’s what he meant. Coghlan, a righty, was playing on the left.

For the next 2, he’s saying CDH on the left, vs Coghlan on his off hand again like he was last night

Chatfield has legitimately looked like our 5D, not our 6D. He's been awesome. Very tough to take him out of the lineup.

Chatfield has looked good these 1st three game and agree he's been the #5. He still scares me a bit as he plays a high event style (both sides of the ice), is a bit a gambler and very aggressive when it comes to jumping into the play and pinching. It works on the top pairing with Dougie/TDA/Burns because Slavin is there to cover. It works on the 2nd pairing because Pesce is there to cover.

I don't know that CDH, Coghlan or Bear are good enough to cover. CDH is probably the most stable. It's worked so far against 3 weaker teams so I'll be interested to see how well this works going forward. No complaints so far though.

He's bailed himself out a few times though because he's an unreal skater and I don't think I fully realized that during his stint last year.

He covered for Coghlan a couple times that I remember. I am a fan but still small sample size.

Even last year he played well in the 10 games or whatever it was.

I admit, I don't think I knew who he was prior to last year. I just figured he'd be a minor leaguer who could be a warm body if needed for a night. He's a good player. He's different than TvR was but like TvR he provides contribution, and for a 3rd pairing guy that's great.

I like Chatfield a lot. I remember being really impressed with his energy during his stint last year and while I dont think we would want to rely on him in any bigger role than a bottom pair defenseman he's been really good in that role. If we end up moving any of these guys so be it but having more good players than spots is one of the best kinds of problems to have
