Ohgren scoring at will in the AHL while Yurov is struggling to stay at 0.5 PPG in the KHL. No guarantee Yurov steps right into a Top 6 role. Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Ohgren is a better player down the line.
Ohgren has looked like a nothing burger in the NHL this year.

He could skate with the NHLers but lacked confidence. That will come with time. Rossi also looked lost and he spent a year working on his game in Iowa and now is a Top 6 impact player. Ohgren also was a big time producer in the SHL, a notoriously stingy league.

I think people here are a bit presumptuous about Yurov immediately stepping into a scoring role. He’s being outperformed by Kantserov big time this year. These guys almost never develop linearly

Boldy - bad freshman year, dominant after
Marat - huge KHL season, then hit a wall
Stramel - horrible freshman year, solid sophomore
Ohgren - ??
Yurov - ??
Heidt - should be in Europe. He’s not challenging himself. CHL is a joke for a guy of his age & caliber.

To be clear, my point was that a small sample size doesn't mean anything. So Ohgren scoring 7 in 9 games in the AHL has as much meaning as his 0 points in 8 NHL games this year.

Yurov was the highest point producer on the best team in the KHL last year (second best team in the regular season). He had should surgery in the offseason which has absolutely impacted him this year (think how long it took Kaprizov to return to normal post Stanley fold up). I'm not selling my Yurov stock any time soon.

Definitely fair. I think Yurov has the potential to be a guy that carries his own line while Ohgren looks more like a good complimentary piece. Ohgren does have an excellent motor and is a coach’s son and former WJC captain, etc. Like Rossi, you like him to continue to add things to his game throughout his career.

My original point that was Ohgren & Stramel have higher floors and Yurov & Heidt have higher ceilings**. The sexy talents are always more intriguing but the NHL is a tough league and the workers are often the ones who make a long career. Plenty of super skilled guys who never cultivated the sandpaper needed to stick around

**Stramel being compared to Heidt & Ohgren to Yurov. I’m not saying Stramel has a higher floor than Yurov

marat is playing rock solid defensively responsible hockey ,scoring will come. ohgren similar to JEE started slow will be decent. yurov i think he regrets not coming here this year. heidt stud just needs his shot. thats my take. stramel & jiricek well neither would be my choices. i hope both make it however perrault over stramel and give me our 1st over jiricek. i think we bought cbj's junk

If yurov came over and wasn't good it might set him back. Let him sort out the injury in the khl and see if he can't get back to where he was.

A very late 1st isn't worth much, but we sent over Hunt, a 2nd, and a 3rd, also(4th and 5th cancel out, or nearabouts). At this point i don't have an opinion about the trade... it's a bit of a gamble, but if you are going to give up draft picks, do it when the team is drafting low in the order.

I kinda like the aggressiveness of BG in this one.

In my experience, a lot of "coach's kids" get chances that other kids don't because of their connections. Same with "ex- player's kids". Seen it time after time.

Not to mention the 3rd and 4th are in years where the Wild have two draft picks. The 2nd round pick is in 2027!

Is he going to ever hit beast level in college?
He’s playing Top 6 C on arguably the best team in the country. He wasn’t a lottery pick nor was has he ever projected as a scoring forward in the NHL. If he hits his ceiling it will be as a Foligno type, or as JiricekSaveUs mentioned, Nic Roy.

Both Foligno and Roy were 4th rounders. You'd sure like to have a higher ceiling on a first rounder.

I just wouldn't call what he is doing in college right now beasting, but it's much improved from his first two seasons.

I agree. But people who listed him as like our 14th best prospect are way off. He’s got a solid chance to be a regular NHLer, maybe even a good one.

I’m not really seeing a whole lot of skill in my 2 viewings of him this year. And that’s fine.
