It’s a hockey game being played by well paid professionals who gave up a vacation to represent their country (for free). Let’s all put the B.S aside and enjoy the game. Win or lose (either side) the sun will still rise on Friday morning and we should be grateful to the players on both teams who will have tried their best and gave us an exciting tournament (Finland and Sweden too). This game will not define any of us on this board but hopefully unite us in our love for the game of hockey.

I like that it's in the American barn. They deserve it after the loss in Vancouver. Could be a great moment for US hockey. Hopefully not though, hopefully it's an embarrassing blowout for the good guys.

I can't wait until Russia is back. International anything hasn't been the same Hockey wise. WJC, meh, it's better with a third top tier team back in (no disrespect to the fins/sweds) Russia can upset the americans or canadians any game, just makes it so much better.

2010 Olympics lol
2002 Olympics was much more significant.
Yeah, that was a world stage thing, can't really top that. This tourny, while fun, just doesn't quite have the same impact as an olympic gold metal game.
Nothing beats the Olympics imo. But i dont see future world cups of hockey being better because this is the first national best on best in many years. The next world cup will be overshadowed by being in between olympics.

87 Canada Cup. I was alive during the Summit Series but too young to appreciate it so Gretz feeding Lemieux is my best international memory. If I was American, I'd be saying 96 World Cup. That was a crushing defeat for Canadians.

Edit,

While I agree an Olympic gold medal is obviously bigger than whatever this is, I truly believe the Americans think they've surpassed Canada in hockey. That couldn't be said back in 2002, or in 2010.

I mean, the summit series wasn't for the Olympics but no one can say those games weren't important.

In terms of impact on the game, the Russians thought they were better and that series was for the best nation in the world at hockey. The same could be said for this one. As a Canadian, I'd have a hard time saying Canada is better currently if they lose twice to the Americans at this tournament.

Is this the biggest game since Game 8 of the summit series? I feel like when you take all the factors involved it just might be. I can't think of a more important game since then.
This event may not have had any prestige heading into it but with the way the players have brought the intensity they've made it prestigious. They were obviously starved for international hockey, and there's no denying politics is playing a part in it as well. It's a big game for sure and this little tourney will be remembered.

I believe in the hockey gods, and I don’t think they will reward gm Doug Armstrong boys club mentality and having binnington be the starter. He shouldn’t have been named to the roster, he has been league avg for 3 of the last 4 years and had a 6 month hot streak 6 years ago. Hockey gods are not rewarding this behaviour. Goaltending and scoring depth will be the difference, USA will win.

Doug Armstrong didn't build the team, Don Sweeny did

Doug Armstrong is still part of the management group, he picked don sweeney…you don’t think Armstrong said binnington is our starter, you can select whoever else. Why was team Canada so horned on having binn8ngton as the goalie…there is zero reason for it, because he got hot 6 yrs ago for 6 months and has been underwelming the last 6 years…

Because he's one of the best puck handling goalies in the league and they think they can beat the US's forecheck with that. He also had the 2nd highest GSAx in the league last season, so if that's underwhelming there are about 90 underwhelming goalies in the league.
