Randomly bringing up our alleged "lack of national identity" is getting political, and has nothing to do with anything involving the tournament. You could have simply said that our energy doesn't matches yours and that would be fine.

You crossed a line. I line that was drawn by your fellow mods.

It's a clumsy attempt at trolling by someone who should know better.

In the context of hockey, I would argue that America is the least patriotic of the 4 countries represented in this tournament.

International hockey is largely a sideshow to the NHL here. Meanwhile it seems most Canadians have an encyclopedic knowledge of past success and failures in WJC’s, Olympics, “best on best” tournaments, etc. From what little I know about Sweden and Finland, international competition is a much bigger point of pride than it is for America.
This is believable, as I said I myself didn't really care about this tournament at all, nor do I most international hockey competitions

I don’t see a problem with anyone in any nation believing the country they call home is the best in the world :dunno:
Nor would I expect you to. Big difference between loving where you come from or where you call home, and believing that it is better, or it makes you better, than those from other places.

Well, that’s not really what I’m seeing that motivated my post. I’m moreso referring to seeing all sorts of people who wouldn’t normally watch hockey or care about a tournament like this being motivated to support it out of their love for our great nation
The vast majority of Canadians were already invested in Team Canada and international hockey long before this tournament.

So your suggestion is that now that this game is happening and some fair weather hockey fans are turning their TV on now, they are more patriotic?

Didn't really care about this tournament but I am loving seeing all the passion and patriotism from my American brothers and sisters. Can't say I'm surprised that Canadians don't seem to be matching our energy here, that place has a serious lack of a national identity
Just because American fans are louder and perhaps more obnoxious does not mean us Canucks do not care about our country winning but until the game is played neither team can brag about anything; even a 2-1 win in the round robin. It was also a 4 team tourney so not exactly all the best players were playing.

Nagano, other Olympics, World Cup...never felt this nervous about a Team Canada game. I was just doing chores and watching CAN-SWE opener and got hooked by the amazing level of hockey. Then the US-Canada game, now the Trump tweet that should rile up Team Canada (hopefully more so than a WhatsApp group).

Looking forward to an intriguing game of hockey, feels a lot more important given the current geopolitical climate.

As a Sens fan, Tkachuk scares me when he is on the ice for Team USA, hope he doesn't injure himself or injure any of the Canadians. Tonight I will be rooting against him whole-heartedly, as weird as it feels.

Go Canada Go!

Let’s take a look at the American stars:

Matthews - career no show in big games
B. Tkachuk - can’t get his team into the playoffs
Hellebyuck - swiss cheese in high pressure moments
Werenski - never played past the 2nd round
Hughes - never played past the 2nd round

They’ve got a couple guys who’ve won but they had to jump on board already established teams to do it.

Canada shouldn’t be concerned facing a roster of players who for the most part don’t show up in do or die games.

That’s some rare ignorance from you!
