I see the German top teams Mannheim and Munich playing big roles in that competition, the gap between them and the rest of the DEL is widening rapidly in terms of payroll and infrastructure and they should be considered among the best teams in Europe.

Maybe it would be inappropriate question but I am just wondering.

Is anybody excited about CHL? Like if hockey champions league is anywhere in Europe a big thing...

CHL 2019-20 season on wikipedia

just came from a bar in Cardiff and we were trying to find the cheapest, quickest way to get to Graz Austria from the UK--there are no direct flights--we would either need to change in Amsterdam or Vienna

Yes, it's getting more an more popular. Finnish fans are warming up to seeing teams that play differently than Liiga teams. It helped that JYP won a year ago. Plus Swedish team are doing well in it. As for media coverage, Swedes are doing it right by having the games on the national broadcaster SVT and on free tv. Over her the game are of pay tv with may one or two games on free tv. It doesn't help that the rights holder does not have history of putting out good hockey broadcasts.

Yes but the the performance by finnish clubs is going weaker and weaker.

That's great then. I am curious because nobody really cares in my country. Imo, main reason why is like that we have just one team. And they even don't want to play there. :D:huh: Hopefully, Slovakian clubs will get more spots in the future. It would be better if Slovan Bratislava stop to play in KHL and rather put their effort for CHL.

Well they have to earn that spot by the current participant putting more effort into succeeding.

I wouldn't say it is too popular in Germany either compared to the DEL, Berlin played most of their games in their former much smaller arena cos they couldn't draw a large enough crowds. I remember some Red Bull Munich games being in front of lots of empty seats. It changed with their success though, the semi finals were sold out, a thing that rarely happens in Munich otherwise. I think that European top teams from e.g. Sweden aren't exactly household names even for German hockey fans, it is not like that fans are dreaming of seeing their team once playing against Frölunda or Kärpat. In soccer games against the best clubs like Barca, Real, Juve are the highlight of a season but in hockey it's rather the local rival.
It could change, but it will take years of CHL hockey since you'll only get to know and respect those European Topclubs if the best German clubs compete with them year in and year out in the CHL. For sure Frölunda for sure is much better know after last years final against Munich.

Sort of depends which club's roster is ready for the season and which ones are "work in progress" HIFK fans were rather pissed off the clubs roster was so unfinished last season when they were playing that they could put up a proper effort. And I think all Finnish hockey fans know that Tappara under Rautakorpi are never at their best in the Fall. We'll see what Kärpät, Pelicans and HPK can do next season in this tournament.

I think the reason why Slovak clubs don't want to play it is money. There was an article that there was a meeting between CHL, ProHokej and Banska Bystrica and they said they solved the issue for this year, but wouldn't say how.

I guess, if you are Banska Bystrica, you would rather spend that money on an NA player than on this league that people in Slovakia don't really care about much in general.

I would love for the final to be a 3 game series. Don't like it's just one game and the team with more points during the tournament gets home ice advantage

It's a pity, though. In recent years, they had a great, competitive rosters(Maione, Marshall, Higgs, Handzuš, Surový or Faille), same with staff. They would definitely have a chance in this league.

I mean they finished dead last in their group in the last two seasons, so one can hardly have high expectations from them for the next one.

Nah, this is better concept. Exactly like soccer CL. Furthermore, players already play a lot of games in league and they would be so tired if system is like this...

No, soccer is at a neutral venue, that I would be a different story. But obviously won't work as well with hockey cos I think it would be hard to fill an arena in a different country depending on the match up.

There no room in European leagues schedules (mostly Finnish league, which sticks to a 60 game regular season despite fan preference for a shorter regular season).

It is possible that home team will play in final but not certain (or in some cases not even likely). This year it's played in Atletico Madrid's stadium and the team made it to the finals in 2014 and 2016. Atletico got knocked out in the round of 16 this time.

In 2012 Munich hosted the final and Bayern was playing.

Klagenfurt could cause Tappara and Biel/Bienne trouble. They have kept their championship roster intact, made some upgrades and look pretty well-oiled for this stage of the season. They're relying a bit too much on their top defencemen though.

I can't wait but for different reasons then anyone else as I badly want to see as many Lahti Pelicans games as possible but being in the states it's now just about impossible to get a stream for Liiga games (legal or otherwise) so I'm hoping they go far so I get to see a few of their games via this tournament.
