Isn't this the dude who said he was going to be the best dman in the NHL last season?

f***ing stupid decision by Conroy, he clearly hoping that there aren't enough injuries to d-men and thinks he can sneak him through... but with f***ing Tinordi, Barrie, Hanley & Bean still in camp, this is f***ing moronic.

You're overreacting. A player has to actively be a clear upgrade on a roster to be worth claiming. Yes he has potential but he's not there yet. Even if he does get claimed that team then can't waive him without Calgary just getting to take him back if there are no other claims

Awful decision to waive him over the likes of Hanley or so they can sign Barrie. Solovyov's already a solid #6.

Solo is LD. Barrie is RD affects the situation for Hanley (LD/RD), Miromanov and Pachal.

Bean, Bahl, Hanley and Tinordi are the guys who are involved with the Solo waiving and I have a feeling that one or two of those guys (last two names) will also be waived.

Isn't this the dude who said he was going to be the best dman in the NHL last season?

I think that was Miromanov? But either way, you need to adjust the sensitivity to your sarcasm/optimism/joke detector.

They currently have Barrie slotted in on the left side for reasons

I mean... you have a point there, but that's also 8 dmen.

IIRC we haven't officially signed Barrie yet, so maybe it's an audition to figure out if he can play both sides like Hanley prior to demoting someone or tabling an NHL contract? Hanley/Pachal or Barrie as #7, Bean 3rd pair LD, one of Hanley/Pachal/Barrie sent to be Wranglers top pairing?

Either way though, even without Barrie, I think someone needed to be sent down. Solo makes sense as the Wrangler's top pairing vs the #7 on the Flames (I can see the argument for Bean over Solo). Even if Solo is better than Hanley, the long term development/stagnation risk is worse.

8 dmen but just 13 forwards and 2 goalies making for a 23 man roster. No Coronato, Pelletier, or Honzek but Schwindt stays for some inexplicable reason.

It probably is an audition for Barrie to see if he can play on the left but they really seem to like him regardless.

At most they maybe waive Hanley to keep up one of the trio of forwards prospects but either way, there's still a ridiculous veteran bias in the Flames organization.

I don't think I am. I've watched every game of his pro career. Conroy f***ed up.

I think Barrie gets signed and they chose Tinordi over Solo because he's basically a face puncher (more of a punchee if we're honest)

Don't sign Barrie, let Hanley get waived, keep Solovyov up would be my ideal.

Even if he's #7, theres no way this defense is consistent enough for him to not play. Aside from Andersson and Weegar they all have question marks. Wouldn't be surprised if any of them sit a game or two for another perspective.

Hell even sign Barrie, with this defense corps and injuries, he'll still play.

Dude he was pretty bad last night and he's been pretty mediocre at camp as is. He hasn't earned a spot at all. I highly doubt he gets claimed as I can't name a single team where he's an upgrade to their current d-core on, that doesn't also have their own Solovyov like player.

Again I do see the potential but waiver claims are meant for players that will make difference now, not in 3 years.

He will probably pass through waivers unclaimed. There’s no point in getting worked up until he is actually gone.

I’m not sure there’s a lot of point in getting worked up regardless, but if the narrative is “stupid Flames doing Flames-y things”, I guess you can fit this into that narrative.

Solo is a 6/7 right now with occasional flashes of more. But those flashes are just that, flashes. Unless he goes to the AHL to develop those flashes to be more of an occasional or semi frequent occurrence at the NHL level, I agree that many teams have a guy like that.

IMO both you and @Lunatik are correct, but Solo is sitting solidly in between both your opinions. Solo is at a calibre most other teams have, but Solo has also shown occasional flashes of potential that other players at that calibre don't really show. Clear upgrade wise, I agree he is not that on the Flames, but the Flames also have so many more guys that are 6/7 calibre right now. Solo could potentially be a clear upgrade on another team's bottom pairing, so I can see why Luna is concerned.

Even if we lose Solo, we have similar style guys in Kuznetsov, Grushnikov, Hurtig, Jurmo etc. But none quite at the clear 6/7 level as Solo and none have sorta shown something extra at the big club level like Solo occasionally has. I kinda understand the logic of developing Solo so he returns as a 4/5 calibre guy and maybe a solid #4. But I totally get the concerns on risk and I feel like he won't be able to accomplish that on limited minutes at the NHL level.

Others might not be worried even if such a calibre of player is claimed, but IMO I'd rather not lose Solo.

Bad last night... 1 game sample sizes aren't evidence of anything besides a lack of a legitimate argument.

I've watched the kid play more than 200 professional games. He's better now than plugs like Tinordi who only have NHL jobs to get punched in the face. He's much better than you are giving him credit for.

Tinordi is 32, has reached his ceiling a long time ago, and will be happy being in the NHL even if he only gets into 15 games in a season. Thus he's a good fit for a #8 defenseman role on a team that carries eight defensemen. And the fact that he's not very good shouldn't matter for a team that's rebuilding.

I'm no expert on the Flames or Solovyov, but as a general rule, young players with any kind of untapped potential should play in the AHL unless they can get a good amount of minutes in the NHL. This used to be general concensus on HFboards, up until ten years ago or so when opinions changed, and I don't get why.

NHL teams affiliate with AHL teams to develop players, and so that's what they should use them for.

that goes out the window when you are risking them on waivers. I think he is getting massively underrated. I'd be shocked if the Oilers don't put in a claim, I'd take Solo over all of Emberson, Stetcher and Brown.

lol I always love the overreactions to players getting waived. Ruzicka and Phillips were sure fire top 6 guys. Even Valimaki didn’t hurt that much.
