ARI:
Nick Merkley (RW)

CGY:
Morgan Klimchuk (LW)

or

ARI:
Nick Merkley (RW)

CGY:
Rasmus Andrersson (D)

Flames trade from a position of strength in the system (D) and (LW) to fill a gap in the system (RW). Arizona is lacking a bit of depth in LW and D in the system so it seems like a good fit.

I would prefer Merkley much more than either of those players

Andrersson is interesting but I still like Merkley more. Klimchuk is coming off a 9 point AHL campaign so hell no to that

AZ loaded with young LW talent and replenished D prospect pool. Need is RW. So this move makes no sense for AZ....even if it were for both players.

why does ARI downgrade? pick Merkley 1st round and trade him for a late 2nd? what has Andersson done?

You are not getting Andersson for Merkley.

Take Klimchuk, though, why not. That would be a huge overpayment on Arizona's part.

How can you call this a downgrade?

Plenty on 2nd rounders have become better players then late 1st rounders.

Andersson is a 2way 60point RHD that has accomplish just as much as Merkley...Merkley has a Mem cup ...but I think its safe to sday the Rockets rode the coat tails of Leon Draisaitl during that run.

Andersson was taken where he was taken for a reason. He didn't skyrocket his point totals year after year, so I'm not sure where the narrative that he's great defensively is now coming from.

is 65P Ethan Bear worth more than Merkley too? no. 2nd rounders can for sure become better players than 1st rounders. 1 year post draft with no significant drop/rise from either player tells me this is a load

The Rockets were already dominant before the Raiders made them juggernauts. And Merkley was the leading scorer on that team...

If the Coyotes wanted Andersson they could've took him. Instead they took Merkley and Fischer. Fischer who they really wanted, and Merkley who fell from like 17th.

Value of the Andersson trade is probably close. But Coyotes have Murphy signed long term, just acquired DeAngelo and Wood, and Mayo might be a bottom pairing guy too. Adding a RHD prospect isn't as appealing as just seeing which of our right handed RW can become players. Yotes need at least one of Samuelsson, Merkley, Fischer or Garland to pan out.

I should have re-iterated that i mean LW prospect depth.

I dont follow Arizona enough to really know, i use this site as a guide to prospect pools im unfamiliar with.

After Perlini it seems to drop off quite a bit. They drafted a C and 4 D this year, so maybe they dont think its an issue.
Domi, McGinn, Rieder, Martinook, Perlini, Bunting, Karlsson.....all under 25 except McGinn who turns 28 today. Also possibility Keller is converted to a LW. And only 4-5 LW NHL roster spots available.

No he doesn't.

I'd do the first deal, wouldn't do the second deal though. I doubt Arizona does either.
