I really like what I'm seeing and hearing from Weal. He seems level-headed, has a great attitude and is determined. I still don't think he'll make the kings roster out of camp, but I do expect a breakout year from him down in manchester. I don't think 30g+ and 80pts+ is out of the question.

Keep working on the faceoffs and puck distribution Jordan!

Great article Gann!!!

Did you read the article? He has worked out and thus gotten stronger. Yes, he still needs to get stronger, but he's aware of it and he plans on getting stronger with each year.

It's mostly the puck distribution that the coaches want him to improve upon.

Of course I read it. He can say one thing but when he still gets pushed around by younger prospects it's not saying much.

He might make it in the future if he continues but I really don't see it here.

I seriously wouldn't mind bringing him on board and letting him learn the game. Perhaps a 10 game try out and then send him straight back to Manchester. Let him strengthen his game even more and by next year, he'll be a good addition to our 3rd or 4th line, under Richards and Kopi's padawan.

I remember when Jordan first came to Manchester. He couldn't hack it and ended up back in Regina. Even at the beginning of last year, he just didn't seem to have the ability to raise his game at the next level. However, he really started turning it on during the latter half of the season and was one of the better players on the ice. I really think he has an even better season in store for himself at Manchester, but to get to the NHL is going to take even more due to him being undersized.

Uh... Last year was Weal's first eligible year he could play full time in the AHL. The previous two seasons he only played a game or two, because his WHL season was over.

Nonetheless, Weal still has a ways to go. While he has added strength, he can still get muscled off the puck by some players of equal size, let alone larger players. He still plays a major finesse game.

Weal isn't going to play in a checking role. He's too skilled for that, and too small. He'll have to be the #1 or #2 center, or maybe play on right wing. With the Kings being loaded up front in those positions, Weal won't be making the Kings roster anytime soon.

Great article, Gann.

I noticed Weal's last yr in Regina, he had 41 goals 75 assists for 116 points and the next best on the team was 55 points. It may be the first time I have ever seen a player have more than double the points of the next highest player. That's incredible. If you look at the stats, it
looks like the rest of the team had 150 goals...and Weal assisted on 75 of them??

I agree that it will be tough to make it at his size...but if he is truly one of the fastest players on the ice, willing to battle and improves his strength every year, he will have a chance. Especially in that he is very focused and dedicated.

The fact that he was so dominant while at Regina *chuckle* is part of his problem. Weal needs to learn to distribute the puck more, especially as a centerman. So, if he can continue to add strength and learn to share the puck, then I think we can see Weal make it to the nhl. With Vey, AA, Shore and now Weal, we sure are looking strong in our centerman position.
