Center Ice/Game Center Discussion

Best thing about gamecenter is one subscription gives you many different platforms to watch the games. If you are having trouble with the xbox app, watch on a laptop. If the phone is giving you trouble, watch on your ipad. I checked out my laptop, xbox and ipad this weekend and while it started off shaky, it got better as the weekend went on. The first week is always a pain. Especially now with all the free previews. The streams will get better. The ipad app didn't work at all Saturday but last night I watched a period of the Oilers-Canucks game on it and was pleasantly surprised. Near HD quality and zero hiccups.

Good point. As the season progresses, I expect updates to improve overall quality for some of the issues you see now with Gamecenter Live.

Oh man, totally addicted to this NHL Gamecenter thingy. Watched some of the Vancouver/Edmonton game last night, watched the Isles on my tv (cable) while also watching Boston/Winnipeg on my Nexus 7 tablet (Gamecenter). And an watching Buffalo/Toronto right now. I watched the Rangers/Penguins replay this morning. Have the NHL Gamecenter on my Roku/tablet/iPhone. Love it !

yeah, Saturday night was a no go for me on GCL but the past two days it worked like a charm. Looked great on the iPad on Sunday, and I was out at a bar yesterday and watched part of our game over the iPhone and it looked really good. I'll probably fire up the Xbox tonight to see how that looks.

As someone who had CI for the past 6-7 seasons, I'm pretty happy with GCL.

You can't appreciate what we have for broadcasters until you watch Center Ice. The pre-game intro for Edmonton was embarrassing. One word: props.

Take a listen to the homers they have in Pittsburgh, I swear if I were a pens fan I would listen to the game on mute. During the time we had Jaffe and Rose we took for granted just how good we had it.

Well, I live in Brooklyn, and I've used gamecenter from various... er... "locations" using a reasonably priced er ... "means of transport". :D

It's been sluggish at times, but once I've gotten a stream, it works great.

Cheers,

Dan-o

I havnt been able to get on to Gamecenter with my PS3, Is anyone else having similar trouble?

I actually bought a Roku, due to the fact I was having trouble getting on to Netflix, Amazon Prime & other things. My PS3 seems to have issues with passwords for some reason. So for $50, I got a Roku, and have been enjoying it ever since, especially this weekend watching hockey.

On the CI/GCL thread on the main board someone said Sony issued a statement saying they wont have the new version of the NHL app until Feb 1.
Good planning, they only had since Sept to get it working.

Roku's are great... Has anyone had success utilizing a VPN with one? I don't want to bother messing with it less I know it works.

P.S. Mods if this is already known i'm sorry and you can delete.

Just got off the phone with DirectTV in an attempt to wiggle my way into free stuff since I now realized that their Choice package doesn't carry NBC Sports. And of course, the Pens/Isles game is on NBC Sports tomorrow. Of course, no budge (despite paying 60 bucks a month for Center Ice), but I did find out some interesting tidbits and have a question on one of them:

1. You can upgrade to the next level (Choice Xtra) which has NBC Sports, and DirectTV billing will prorate to the day. The additional package is 5 bucks a month. So I am just going to upgrade on the day of the game when they play on NBC Sports and then downgrade after the game. It will cost 16 cents per game.

2. There is also the option of adding a 'Sports Package' which contains ROOT, Universal, YES, MSG, etc for only 13 bucks a month. Does anybody have any experience with this? Is it the whole MSG family (MSG+ and MSG+2)? Since the Isles play on that family of networks, I could pay 13 a month and be able to get the Isles, Knicks, and Yankees instead of the incremental value of each package (which is like 50 bucks a month for each). But, if it is strictly MSG and not MSG+/2, then it is obviously not an option. Anybody have any idea here?

Games will be blacked out if you dont have the package.

Even if I am not in the local area? I figured it was too good to be true, but it just seems weird. With Center Ice and the game on in your local area, the games are blacked out for local ad revenue reasons. But out of market subscribing to that channel, they make me watch the same feed through Center Ice?

Who would get these channels then?

Bumping this thread for the new season.

Once again the NHL is doing a free trial for Center Ice for the first few weeks this year it is from 10/1-10/19.

I was so pumped to turn on the Habs/Leafs game just to watch some hockey and I turn on the channel and it says something like "You're not subscribed" so apparently this free trial isn't up and running on Fios.

As you can imagine I'm quite angry anyone else having any issues with this free trial?

Does anyone know if you have the international package for Gamecenter if if still works in the US? I'm a student in Oz right now but going back home in January. Lucky for me internationals get Gamecenter for just 99 bucks, but now I'm worried when I go home won't work. Any ideas?

No problems on DirectTv. Leafs-Habs game was great, sorry you missed it.

So, should I abandon CI this year for GC? I have a blue ray player that I think will work, but I also have my kid's Wii. Will it work on a Wii? I have no clue.)

Any thoughts on this would be welcome.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/gclfaq.htm?type=devices This should help you out. The Blu-Ray player might work, don't think the Wii will though. Definitely consider Game Centre though if you're out of the NY market. I used it last year at school and am using it again right now in Australia. Perfectly clear video, all the games you want and lot's of choices for devices.
