Not a complaining/pimping thread, but just posting about some players who have slow and fast starts
Slow starts
Marchand, tough time around the net
Giroux, too many penalties
Doughty & Alzner, better today but still not the top d-men (nice move by Doughty though to catch the Slovaks on a line change and set up the goal)
Pyett, can play a lot better offensively
Boychuk, maybe just due to a lack of ice time

Fast starts
Schenn, best d-man so far
Hickey, looking good
Stamkos, slick centreman
Halischuk, all rounder
PK Subban, who knew a good hockey player hid under that crazy personality!!

I have to agree with u sbtatter on the players list u put up i just wanted to say i think
Brandon Sutter the heart and sole of the team.
Matthias is playing very good just needs better shot selection.
Wayne simmions is nowhere to be seen.
One last thought they need the top line to be the top line, the role players are doing everthing good to see turris get that goal.

Sutters definitely not the heart and soul of the team. He hasn't impressed!

The heart and soul player would be
STEFAN LEGEIN!

Sutter is obviously playing injured and his effectiveness is down because of it.

Legein has been a difference maker though.

Stamkos is definetly impressing everyone like he should be. Tavares is a great PP specialist for the tourney and Im starting to think that maybe Hartsburg should give him a chance on even strength.

If Marchand and Giroux wake the **** up, then the rest of the teams in this tournament are in trouble...... but if they don't...... Canada may be in trouble.

Taking a beating and limping out for more might be his definition of a heart and soul player.
I liked Sutter and Legein so far, although you could clearly see that Sutter is injured. But his hit on Frolik definitely changed the game against the Czech. Frolik was invisible after it.
Hickey has been really good for Canada so far. A great skater and very good decision making. Doughty had a very bad first outing but played a strong second game. And of course both goaltenders have been great.
Underwhelming so far the performances of Marchand and Giroux. They will really need to step up their game.

I've been impressed the most by Stamkos, Legein, Halischuk, Sutter, Schenn, Hickey and both goalies. Agree that Marchand and Giroux need to pick it up.

Marchand is playing like he has already won everything their is to win. TSN has mentioned (a few times) that Brent Sutter had a heart<>heart talk with Brad and SUPPOSEDLY the message was well recieved...Marchand SAYS all the right things but his GAME is where you see he has MISSED the point.

I am much more patient with Giroux. He was stellar in the Summit Series and has only been guilty of an over-abrasive mind-set in Paradubice.

Back to Marchand...IMO he was a CONCERN in a virtually perfect series this past fall. The coaches believe he can be a top player and thats why he was selected for this team. He seems to think he already is a top player...he's WRONG... if thats the case.

I don't like Hickey. He is always shooting on PP when he can make some passes out there. Slovakia goalie was always focusing on him when he was on ice.

despite his lack of playing time Tavares played great and Bernier is the best player on the team so I guess that means they're having fast starts

I'm cheering for Halischuk cause of couse he's a NJ prospect, our only prospect in the WJC. Sounds like the typical NJ player too.

I noticed that as well, which is why I don't know if Hickey is best suited for the PP. Maybe give Subban a chance there? I love Hickey's transition game though.

Giroux looked better the second half of the Czech game.

Not really. And even if he did, half game efforts are not going to get it done. He's been poor and really needs to elevate his game. Right now he doesn't even look like he belongs.

Disappointing so far
Marchand, Godfrey, Holzapfel, Boychuk
Can do better
Giroux, Doughty, Sutter,
Not much ice time
Gillies, Subban

I don't know what to make of tavares, he looks like he's being man handled out there, i guess it's because he's so young. 5 on 5 though he's not yet a game breaker, I know the potential must be there b/c of his stats in the OHL, but so far Stamkos looks better. I'm thinking at this point that White would be better than Sutter in the face off's and add some fiestiness to the Canadians.
Hopefully this loss will bring the team together and they'll weather the storm....
