I don't think this is true, especially not for Gaudreau.

Jones actually wasn't(and hasn't been) quite that productive. This is a contract paying out on potential.

Of course, I'm in the same boat as everyone else who thinks this will be a bargain at some point and probably very quickly, but I don't see how it's a good comparable for Gaudreau.

I don't think this is as good as everyone is going on about, I think it's fair value. He's not a #1D, he's a #2, and I'm not convinced he'll ever be a true #1. I think this contract re-enforces that.

Personally, (and obviously I'm very biased), I had Edbad > Lindholm > Jones > Trouba.

I'd love this type of contract for Lindholm, but personally would be willing to go to $6 AAV on a 6 year (unfortunately I don't think our GM is willing to do that).

This year they've resigned Jenner and Murray for under $3 mil/year, Savard for $4.2 mil/year (which includes a few UFA years) and William Karlsson for 1 mil/year. What a terrible truck record! All those players are underpaid if anything.

Don't forget Atkinson is signed to an AAV of only $3.5 million.

Not sure about a bargain, it's a good price for Jones right now. Seems like what they should be paying for a good young D-man. The good value is that they can now not worry about an offer sheet.

3 or more years? its only a 6 year deal. if its only a steal in year 5 or 6.. wouldnt a bridge deal at 3m per for the next 3 years be better

then if he steals the show you pay him your 7per year for 8 years
