Blue Jackets <-- Gibson

Ducks <-- Boqvist, Merzlikins

Columbus get... an upgrade in goal?

Anaheim add a young RD with some upside, and the league's most expensive backup goalie

Gibson isn't an upgrade on Merzlikins, no matter what his decade outdated reputation makes people think.

In terms of GSAx:

23-24: -9.6 GSAx in 46 games for Gibson, -6.3 GSAx in 41 games for Merzlikins
22-23: -11.5 GSAx in 53 games for Gibson, -25.9 GSAx in 30 games for Merzlikins (good god Merzlikins was bad in this season)
21-22: -14.3 GSAx in 56 games for Gibson, +4.0 GSAx in 59 games for Merzlikins
20-21: -7.4 GSAx in 35 games for Gibson, -2.8 GSAx in 28 games for Merzlikins
19-20: -18.0 GSAx in 52 games for Gibson, -2.2 GSAx in 32 games for Merzlikins

Gibson has really let himself go. I don't think you can get him back to where he was, even though a fresh start would help somewhat.

If he had the same contract as Merzlikins, I could see the Jackets maybe interested in a swap, but it's a longer more expensive deal.

Both have 3 years remaining, with Gibson (6.4) making a million more per season than Merz (5.4)

I think if the Ducks retain, it might be worth considering. Who knows what will get into Elvis head after hearing Waddell say he can’t trade his contract

I'd probably stop caring too if I was in his position. The Ducks haven't even tried to be good for most of his career.

I agree but your GM would never do it, because Merzlikins is maximum an average goalie.
