Guys, what a great season. Beyond expectations.

They weren't given much of a chance, but look where they are are - and where they're going.

We all know how this started, even before puck drop in October. R.I.P. Johnny Hockey.
Then Laine starts some BS (pt 1), and gets traded - good on GMDW to get ahead of this, and not make it drag out into the regular season.
Next, captain Boone goes down with an injury that saw him miss the majority of the season.
So even before game 1 they're starting without their top line from the season prior.

What do they do? Coach Evason instills a fantastic work ethic and the notion they are team - no more individual glamour shots in their stalls, and constant references to playing like a Blue Jacket. Love it.

Sean Monahan gets to work early, and gels with some of the Russians. Unfortunately had to miss some time, but came back strong.
The young guys start to establish themselves (KJ, Fantilli) and they set some starts to their careers.
Mateychuk gets the call up, and performs admirably. Solid D, with a touch of offence.
Zach, what else can be said about him.....a career year, and carried this team. Should be the Norris winner. He just became a superstar, and his domination was worth the price of admission.
Olivier confirms he's a bona-fide NHL player; providing scoring punch (18 goals) and also real punches. Dude is the best fighter in the NHL easily, didn't lose one fight this year.
Elvis turned it around, and became more of a team player - destroy this all you want, but he did. I hope he's back next year.

The rollercoaster they took us on, damn - they looked like champions some games (especially the last few games) and some games, welllllll....they couldn't score a damn goal for several games.
Memorable games for me:
- beating the Penguins in Pittsburgh for the first time in forever!
- witnessing them beat Toronto live, in Toronto
- crazy 7-6 W against Tampa in November
- Elvis with the game of his life against NJ, when he made some unbeleiveable saves
- THE game of of the year; the outdoor game! That was a complete experience to witness live, so glad to have been a part of it and show the hockey world how passionate Blue Jackets fans are
- the other crazy 7-6 game, against the Canucks in March

Yeah, there were some lowlights too, but overall this season was a success. They were slated to pick top 5 again for the draft, and ended up being the last team officially eliminated.

Kudos to these guys. Not sure who will be back next season, but I trust GMDW to make the right moves.

A great time for the CBJ.

Good summary. I will say I think Zach will be nominated for the Norris but won't win. Still quite the accomplishment. I think it was his to win at the Stadium game point, but he looked wore down the next bit and the team slumped. In the head to head games against Makar and Hughes that happened during that stretch (even though CBJ beat Vancouver), I thought they both outplayed him. Still an amazing year from him, all 3 are just special players.

I honestly think the freakish Marchenko accident ruined our season.

We had the momentum and once he went down along with a few others, we lost a few key games before the 4 Nations break

This team, by a decent margin has scored the most 5v5 goals in the league. Yeah they faced their share of backup but you still gotta show up and they did, it's impressive no matter how you think about it. Especially with injuries to some pretty key guys all year long

They've also put butt's in seats this year

That Utah attendance is shocking for a first year relocation club
It's not accurate. I was at a game and the arena was around 90-95% full and the capacity of the building is over 16,000 for hockey.

I'm pretty sure that they're not counting the obstructed view seats into the total. Why not? I have no idea. But they're drawing well.

It would be based on tickets sold, so that would make no sense. Maybe struggled early or weekday games or who knows.

You don't know that. I'll bet a large amount that the following is correct and your cliched idea of attendance counting very wrong.

I rechecked the night I was there and NHL.com had the attendance at 11,131 and the building that seats over 16,000. As I said in my other post, it was 90-95% full so the number is almost certainly related to the seats without obstructed views as a percentage of overall capacity.

i.e. Utah HC attendance capacity is: #unobstructed view seats (11,131)/~16,200 (wikipedia number for Delta Center hockey capacity). Which = 68.7%. Which is the percentage listed on the chart.

I really don't care tbh and didn't make the original post to be about Utah

I took my 8 year old nephew to his first NHL game - the game against the Rangers when the Jackets were shut out. He's now a Rangers fan... sigh....

Hopefully the Jackets do a little better next year and I'll take him to another game and get him to see the error of his ways.

I can't help but wonder if there's correlation between this stat & how much we collectively hated on the goalies' play this year.

“Wait, not like that!” 😂

This was a hard season to see end. After a small amount of time, I am coming around to the fact that my frustration I feel when looking back at some roster choices is a good sign. The team took a step. I just wanted them to make the playoffs so badly.

This is the first season in a little while that I wasn't hoping would finish already so we could get to the offseason/the next season, I felt the exact opposite feeling. The league is unforgiving and New Jersey's nowhere-near linear path season by season should serve as a warning, but I'm optimistic if our front office can get our stars some help.

Habs fan that actually would have preferred to see your team there than Jersey. You would have deserved to be there with everything that went on. But with only Voronkov, Fabbro and Provorov to get deals with, of importance, you guys are going to be there next year, I have no doubt. You are on your way up. Congrats on a superb season.
