We're lucky to have him. Hopefully one of these years we can get him a steady defensive partner and he can get that Norris.

Dont care if DD gets a Norris. Rather have a good all around D man than an award for being a fourth forward. The fact people are even talking about a Pacific player on a low scoring team speaks volumes but maybe it is more about seeing him on Sochi. Wasnt the last time he was in the running after Vacouver?

It was. But to be fair, it was also the only other time he really deserved to be in the running.

So we want hockey in both summer and winter Olympics. Every other year. Hey hockey was played in the summer onces years ago

It's funny how far ahead Doughty is of Bogosian, who some scouts said was the best d-man that draft year. It's not even close.

Interesting "what if" scenario, "what if" the Kings had taken Bogosian but then turned around and drafted Karlsson with the next pick. Doughty was by far the most popular pick on this board at the time, but there were a few staunch Bogosian people.

Would you rather have Doughty or Bogosian and Karlsson? I think it's close but would have to go with Doughty, I am not really a big fan of Bogosian, huge talent but something is just missing with his game. He could have used another year in junior, the Atl/Wpg franchise rushed him. Abd while Karlsson is an elite game changing player, Doughty is just special, like generational talent special when he flips the switch.

Lol what if and la didn't trade teuburt for Penner who was key in the cup run and dd is a monster when games really count and I think the kings have been really good at devoloping their own guys. I think that's one thing since dean join the kings that has been a big difference

I was pretty dang angry at Brian Willsie until draft day and the Kings took Doughty at number 2. After seeing the highlights and hearing the analysts rave about him and Dean's comments about him, I got over losing the Stamkos sweepstakes pretty quickly. It's an interesting path both the Lightning and the Kings took after that 2008 Draft. The Lightning have only made the playoffs once (probably will again this year) in the Stamkos era and the Kings have only missed the playoffs once in the Doughty era. I know it's not about just one player, but both are cornerstone guys in their franchises.

When we saw him on the ice as an 18 year old and immediately thought oh boy...this kid is special. There are players who are system players and they rack up points or whatever and you wonder at the end of the night how they got in the box score. Then you see players like Doughty who don't score a point and yet you see his fingerprints all over the outcome of the game. There aren't a lot of defenders out there who can make the spectacular play on one side of the ice, then come right back and do something equally impressive on the other. THAT is what separates him from his peers. HF would rather have ARod, well, we'll take Jeter. I hate the Yankees, but I thought the comparison was appropriate.

I always think "what if" Brian ****ing Willsie didn't score that goal and we had an opportunity for Stamkos instead? I still think DL would have gone for Drew, but that's a scary thought for both franchises.

So lucky to have this guy for a long, long time and he looks to mature a little bit more every year. He's growing into a real leader and is one of our few players that can just say screw it, I'm taking over when it matters in every way.

I like the thought about Team Canada really pushed the 4th man joining the attack--you see a lot of the more offensive teams doing this and I'd love to see us engineer a way to do that more.

Would rather have Doughty. Like you said, he's a generational talent. The last 2 Olympics all the eastern media and fans were raving about him. Once it comes to the NHL regular season, it seems he becomes a forgotting man and isn't talked about much. Well, except that he's a diver, but that's just from Canucks, Blues, Ducks, Coyotes & Sharks fans mostly. The bigger the stage, the better Doughty is. That's how a player seperates himself from his peers.
How Habs fans can honestly say Subban is better than Doughty is nothing but pure homerism through & through.

I agree with this 100 percent

How many minutes did Mr. Norris Subban play in Russia vs. Doughty...
Subban is not a good overall player yet neither is karllson but they are good at what they do and that's why then Norris has become a joke it's not the best overall dmen well for the last two years at least it's the dmen with the most points

On that note it's better to be a east team why is Kopi not up for selke award smh it's very bias

Kopitar's defensive game is as good as anyone's in the league. But this squad doesn't care about personal awards; they play for each other and want Championships instead.

The Norris, like all award voted by experts, is a joke. Last year Suter came 2nd, despite being the 2nd best dman on his pairing. All voters see though is 30 minutes a night on average ice time and they blow their load assuming hes been the best

I think the fact that Subban and Karlsson play for Canadian franchises is a big reason why they won Norris trophies.
