A must read. He's a playmaker not a goal scorer. Hopefully he turns into a Krejci.

Got talent no doubt. But he is inconsistent in the effort department. My Sabres fan friend said he is very frustrating to watch. This is his 3rd team. He better get the memo that Bruins fans will not put up with lack of effort

I've watched him live more than a few times and couldn't agree more. Playing top-line minutes will give him an opportunity to put up points and gain some confidence (hopefully).

I think Poitras gets playoff experience in Providence and Mittlestadt takes his place at 3C.
Over time he might gets looks at wing, and will certainly get looks at 2C and time with Pasta. Plenty of time to test him out in all situations to see where he fits best with this team.

If the Seguin deal taught us anything, it's that sometimes talent needs time to meet maturity. Hopefully the proper leadership can bring that out in him.

On another note, I see he wore 37 in Colorado...looks like that will be a no go here!

Proper leadership? Who's that here
Never implied that he'd get it here coming out of the gate as there isn't much of it right now. It should be part of their off-season plan to bring some in / develop.

FWIW, Chara was brought in here to be a mentor / consultant to the team, so I'd say it's also part of his job description too.

Watching him play out here in Colorado, as a NH transplant, think a very poor man's Craig Janney. Ton's of skill with a pass first mentality, but very soft along the boards and avoids contact. Confidence is a major issue right now so hopefully a change of scenery does him good.

$5.75M cap hit for two more seasons, age 28 at expiry. Risky to take that on given his performance this season, but he is 26 and has the potential to break out. Given where the Bruins are today, it’s a reasonable risk to take.

Is it really that risky though if we are going into a rebuild? Maybe if we are trying to quickly retool for next year but I highly doubt that they are able to do that even if they wanted to.

2017 Red Line

7th overall

Eden Prairie High School LC

A very heady and skilled player at both ends.

Operates on a different level from the rest of his teammates, both at the high school and USHL levels, but when working with other high hockey IQ guys on his wing during international events, he demonstrates superior skills and thought processes.

Able to read off creative linemates and move instinctively to open ice, creating dangerous chances constantly.

He’s got an explosive stride with an effortless shot release.

We love his competitive fire.

Likes to carry the puck and gains the offensive zone easily, backing defenders off the blue line.

Has continued to round out his game in a gradual build up, getting incrementally bigger, stronger, abs and faster each of the past three seasons.

Thick build and deceptively strong.

Needs to move his feet more- it’s so easy for him to dominate at high school level that he picked up some lazy footwork habits.

Hockey News Draft Review 4th overall

DOB 11/22/98 ~ 26 year old

Scout1 : with his skill and how crafty he is, he’s got a chance to be a player. His skating is OK- not very fluid - but he’s faster with the puck then without it”

Scout2: he’s a dynamic player with great puck handing skills and vision. He can take the net or distribute. He’s grown and his skating has improved. He makes plays in tight areas”

scout3 “strong lower body, tree trunk thighs, powerful stride…tough to stop when gets a step on you”

Still on the fence about this acquisition.

However, I went on a video rampage unable to sleep last night. I watched a lot of Zellers, Minten, Misyul, Khusnutdinov… and Casey Mittelstadt. It was a long night.

One thing I noticed about Mittelstadt that really stood out (particularly during his time with the Sabres) is that he is so adept at making plays in the areas of the offensive zone that the Bruins have struggled so mightily in this season. Accurate passing in tight spaces. Great finish in close.

I think there’s potential here for a great fit. And I’m looking forward to watching him in a Bruins uniform.

Which of the young prospects stood out to you?

Cautiously optimistic about him. Talent is there, I think they need that in the lineup. Obvious drawbacks in other places. Won’t know until I get to watch him first hand.

I see the comparisons to a poor man's Janney, but he reminds me of Brad Boyes. He is much faster but style, effort and skillset seem similar to me. His role and level of teammates is also similar unfortunately.
Welcome and good luck.

In fairness his last year in Buffalo was pretty good and he was their leading scorer I think. Most Buffalo fans lament the trade and they have lacked a center all year and feel not getting one is one of the reasons for another season of failure.

I agree on his effort level and that is the question but optimistically he might just work out as the playmaking center Pasta could use.

The plan was sign the free agent Lindholm as that magical center but he's not that guy. He can't keep up with Pasta's pace and it just didn't fit. So a big mistake. Lindholm is now Coyle's replacement not Bergeron's. Mittelstadt is a fast skating playmaker though. Maybe they can click. Let's hope.
