This year, and next, $2,75m.

He’s still got wheels, and can help with the PK, but that’s it. His hands are terrible.

Would anyone claim him on waivers? If not, does a second sweeten the pot for any team?

Many Caps fans are ready to move on.

If you're offering a second, I'd take him on Calgary, Lucic-Monahan-Hagelin as a 4th line

Hold your horses. Caps is not handing out a 2nd just to get rid of Hagelin. They need the pick way more than the little cap space it would open up.

if he moves, its likely to balance cap in a hockey deal.

If Fleury is on the books for Caps, Hagelin might actually end up to Chicago anyways.

$2.75 million in cap space is more than a little cap space for a 4th liner/PK specialist who’s production can easily be replaced with cheaper internal options.

its 2 mills after the internal replacement, who maybe can replace the production but is still propably not much of an ”update”. Is that really worth a 2nd? What are you doing with that cap space then?

Just paid an good asset to create that space, time to get really creative.

Right now Caps need the pick more than the cap space. They are pretty well set up for the off season with Schultz out of the books and cap possibly going up with couple millions. Basically only Samsonov and Vanecek/option B and nr6D to sign with around 9 mills.

You move Hagelin if it makes sense, not just to pay up for cap space you dont have a plan for. With the new wave coming they have options but its not great idea just to make moves to make moves.

Depends on what happens with Mantha this year. If Mantha comes back before the playoffs, that cap space is extremely valuable to add another goaltender or top 6 forward.

It also opens up more cap room for next year. Hagelin and Schultz off the books gives them major flexibility with almost $7 million in cap space between them.

It will cost the caps a pick to move. Accept it or he staying for another year. Generally contenders have a decent PK already so a CH upgrade isn't needed.

Probably clears waivers but he has value, at least enough that they wouldn't have to attach anything as significant as a 2nd to move him.

yeah i get the part where we move him to actually get something else, like Fleury, if we want to go that route. But i dont think it adds anything close to a 2nd to make him a part of the deal of that sorts. But just to pay to move him alone for a 2nd seems excessive and unnecessary.

its starting to look like Mantha is coming back, so the space will be hardly limited in either case. Im not sure what kind of a top6 or starter goalie you can really get at 2 millions of space gained from Hagelin. Because if Mantha is activated, thats all the space we have.

In that case it might take moving Schultz instead, or even both if you want to go all in, but how much more are Caps ready to spend if they already paid up a 2nd just to get started.

Off season is a different story, and if there is a plan to be executed i dont think moving Hagelin will be all that hard then. Id think atleast couple teams would find use for a well established veteran NHLer who is widely known and liked, kills PK, and has two stanley cup rings and beautiful hair to show for the rookies.

i'm surprised he's still in the league. feels like a long, long time since he's been relevant or any kind of a game changer

The guy plays as if his role is done, but he still got crazy wheels and I think if he got picked up by the right team he will be money.

He is the type of guy that could be scoring a significant amounts of goals on PK if he would been given the chance.

Was just scrolling through the remaining available FAs and was surprised to see his name still there - until I looked at his numbers from the last few seasons.

Was it injury that led to his decline or are there other factors; chiefly being 34 years old?

Hagelin with his speed would seem to fit well with the way a team like the Devils try to play.

Or is he a shell of that player?

Hagelin has vision problems due to a severe eye injury.

He had hip resurfacing surgery last season and the pupil in one eye will never dilate again because they had to restitch his pupil back together. The eye injury was so bad he almost lost his eye completely. He’s likely done.

Sure, for Jeff Carter straight up.
