Let me list the similarities, starting with both hitting the waiver wire today.

They played almost the exact same number of games at 1019 vs 1021. Even-strength goals were 158-157. Both 34 years old. Career-wise, they had good peaks and both were 30-goal scorers. Both won the Mark Messier Leadership Award.

Both were tough but Simmonds added more toughness and contributed on the power play. Foligno was an NHL captain for six seasons so I'll give him some extra points for leadership and defensive play.

Notably, at around age 30, both fell off hard.

I don't think there's a wrong answer here, but there's definitely a lesson of buyer-beware on hard-nosed players who don't skate that well as they age.

This isn’t really fair considering Simmonds played with a top 10 C in nhl history. (Giroux)

When did history start 15-20 years ago, and big fan of Claude.

I think most folks would prefer prime Simmonds on their team if given the choice.

Both likely had similar careers in the grand scheme of things but Simmonds was I think the more memorable player.

Simmonds is probably the right answer, but i'm voting for Foligno. At his best, he was real good. I enjoyed watching him more than i enjoyed watching Simmonds crowd around the net front at his peak. So that's my vote. Even if it's wrong.
