1 - The fight over cost was the Checkers wanting the Canes to pay all their expenses while the Checkers pocketed all the revenues. Any other team would tell them to f*** off, but they thought they had the Canes in a bind because it was all in the same state. They guessed wrong. With their fights with AHL Affiliates over costs, rumors of a refusal to pay for Brind'Amour's assistants, Canes may be one of the cheaper orgs in the League.
Now the Canes may be playing some 4D Business Chess, but they've had two very public and messy divorces with AHL affiliates. What's that old saying about when everyone you run into is an A-Hole...1 - The fight over cost was the Checkers wanting the Canes to pay all their expenses while the Checkers pocketed all the revenues. 2 - The issue with the Wolves was that the Canes wanted them to prioritize playing and developing our prospects over AHL vets, and the Wolves refused. Namely, the Canes wanted Kochetkov to keep getting starts to keep him fresh in case we needed to call him up last year, and the Wolves kept playing Lyons.
We'll see, my understanding is the Assistant pay caused a snafu on an extension, maybe it'll get worked out, maybe not. Time will tell.3 - The refusal to pay the assistants is not true at all. We paid them the last time he asked and we're going to pay them all now. The contract renewal was just tabled til after the playoff run to both sides can focus on making it right.

That doesn't mean Brind'Amour doesn't want his Assistants to get paid. I'm not saying he'll leave, I'm saying Assistant Pay is the thing that still needs to be worked out because there wasn't a meeting of the minds. There's no snafu. I know what Dreger and Weekes put out the other day, and I also know that both Brindy and the Canes have since said there is no issue, and even Dreger started to walk back his comments saying neither side has any desire to test the market. Hell, even Friedman came out today in his podcast saying the whole issue from this week didn't stem from Brindy but from some of the people around him who are basically worried that Brindy isn't doing the right thing by taking the deal he's going to take.
Once again, the assistants will get paid. The last time Brindy had his contract extended he asked for it and it happened, and Dundon has already said he's already agreeing to do it again, they just have to work out the fine details, which they'll do after the playoff run ends. Doesn't want to distract any of the coaches from getting ready for their games. That doesn't mean Brind'Amour doesn't want his Assistants to get paid. Anyways, the many open contract slots is just another piece of evidence that Carolina is probably a cheap organization. I don't know why you personally care unless you are family with the Ownership. It doesn't have much an affect on the ability to build a Stanley Cup contender as that is all Non-Cap related expenditure we're talking about.

The Wolves came crawling backbut they've had two very public and messy divorces with AHL affiliates
Strange you call out the Canes when the Wolves have been through more teams than any other franchise in the AHL--it is Chicago who put the A in A-hole here....Now the Canes may be playing some 4D Business Chess, but they've had two very public and messy divorces with AHL affiliates. Maybe you missed all the elc’s we’ve handed out over the last month, Pashin hasn’t gotten anywhere and it’s time for the newer guys.I guess they wanted to free up a 50 contract limit spot, or just being cheap since they were nowhere close to the limit this season. That be a bit more likely. With their fights with AHL Affiliates over costs, rumors of a refusal to pay for Brind'Amour's assistants, Canes may be one of the cheaper orgs in the League.

interesting you use that adage for Carolina breaking up with Charlotte and Chicago, but not for the Wolves having issues with Vancouver and St. Louis and Carolina. Now the Canes may be playing some 4D Business Chess, but they've had two very public and messy divorces with AHL affiliates.
