Just saw the highlights of the 2010 first round against the Habs. Lol i forgot

- how fast peak Ovechkin was
- how bad Mike Green was defensively
- that Varlamov played for the Caps

Is this the series where OV had a goal overturned for barreling thru a mountain of a defender to get to the puck in the crease, gets the puck, defender, and gk at the same time just to have the goal overturned? ya, thanks a lot nhl. that was my favorite goal of all time.

All the pundits are ignoring the Caps past round 1. I said early in the season that I'm happy for everyone to sleep on our boys. And that's still true. Put all the pressure on Toronto/Tampa/Carolina and let the Caps just play.
I also prefer being ignored a bit. They also ignored us for long past when we were balling in regular season. So let them sleep on us.

No. That was an awesome goal, but a regular season game.

Nah this happened in the regular season 09-10.

ESPN (Wyshynski) has us losing to Tampa in the ECF. So not totally.

No Fever, no Pro.
My goalie gut tells me LT starts Game 1. Fever with an ankle injury, can be tricky so I say Protas comes back in the series before Fever does.

Call me crazy, but I think there is more pressure on the Habs than the Caps! Habs fans are expecting the team to upset the Caps. Also, the last 2 games of the season the Habs showed some nervousness trying to clinch a playoff spot against the Hawks and Canes team with a lot of rested players. Montembeault is also playing his first ever playoff game. He will have some nervousness.

Fever finished the game where he hurt his ankle , so I suspect he's just resting it, not going to miss time.
Players can sometimes play on a hurt ankle because the foot is still warm. It's a soon as you take the skate boot off that there can be bigger swelling. Also, taking the skate off the ankle can stiffen. Depending on how severe the ankle injury is, you can freeze spray it, numb it, or wrap it up. Then it depends on the players pain tolerance.

Whatever they preached and did earlier in the year - they need to do it again

NO ONE (even most of us fans those on this board) thought we’d be 1 seed in East at start of year… yet they came out and been great almost the whole season.

Same mentality. There’s many saying Caps will get beat round one.

No “experts” picked Caps at beginning of season to win the division… and no “experts” are picking Caps to go deep.

Perfect. Absolutely perfect.

It's a small rink. You can't have breakaways if you're too slow. You need opportunity AND speed.

For years, every time we got burned by some team that kept getting behind our D people complained about team speed. We have a lot of guys who can move.

If the Caps get "out-skated" it will be due to effort and quickness and efficiency. They were good at those things earlier in the year. They can be again.
That's what I'm looking for, they gotta move their feet. When they skate, they play more physical. I remember the Edmonton game earlier in the season, where McDavid said something to the effect of "they just come at you in waves". That's how we played the first 3/4 of the season, if we get back to that, I'm confident we make this a short series.

We need a little 4-1 Series one win. Be seen. I want teams to fear us!
If Caps get a clean sweep...

The main difference in 2025 vs years past is we have Carbery who is the odds-on favorite for the Jack Adams and rightly so.

Was Lavi (or lol Reirden) the guy to motivate this team and keep them in line for this kind of switch-flipping? Doesn't look like it.

Carbery still has control of the locker room and is THAT GUY on the bench, without the asshole factor of a Torts (edited: typo) or Keenan or Babcock.

I think they will run through walls for him but have been waiting for the right wall.
