If Chychrun doesn’t resign EK65 has 2x$10M with a NMC, there can’t be too many contenders that can take him on zero retention and good chance they’re going to look to move him at the draft

Why would someone want to take EK65 with zero retention? We don’t need to help the Pens get out their own conundrums!

I think Caps are more likely to activate Milano and assess him or audition him for a trade. To make room you send Mac down for a conditioning stint. or Alexyev. Or one then the other. Both eligible after being healthy scratched for 10+ straight games.

I do think 1st and Milano could be compelling. Milano is only 28, sick hands, and a value 1.9M next year.

I don’t love the ROR move for several reasons:

1. He has two more years under contract and I don’t love that. Through OV year is fine.
2. He isn’t a true top 6 which is what i would target for TDL
3. I don’t feel the need to upgrade 3C at TDL. Eller is a playoff center that everyone is looking for at TDL and we got him early this year.
4. I think caps still want Lapierre (and so do i) to be the 3C next year and beyond. Sure, he had to go cook some more but so did McMichael.

He’d be worth that based on cap projections and the term would be perfect, I think he’s looked great this year, everyone focuses on the pizzas but he’s playing 23 minutes a game and he’s asked to do a ton, and how else to spend the cap room if Chychrun gets to UFA?
And I look at it as taking advantage of their situation more than a bailout.

not really imo ... unless a team with too many C prospects of equal quality came knocking, and even then i'd take a huge pause

Lenny is Lenny, Hutson is Hutson, Lil Pro is Big Pro's brother and AC provides skill that we don't have in any other prospect - even trading AC could end up like FF all over again

I find this interesting when considering the recent prospect rankings ... trading Lil Pro is unfathomable to me as he is progressing huge AND it might upset Big Pro ... yet Lil Pro is our 6th best prospect (I voted for him from #4)

Don't know about American law but is it possible for TNT/ESPN to sign a 1 day contract with Joe B while he has a contract (I suppose) with monumental?

Would love to hear Joe B's call on 894 and 895

Or just let Monumental show the game so the Caps fans can choose what feed they want to see.

I'm sure that if they wanted to all parties could come to an agreement. I really hope they do, he deserves it.

Ugh. Have you watched him play in his own end?!? His productivity in San Jose was a total illusion. He was a 4th forward. Once he was expected to play responsibly in Pittsburgh, his points were cut nearly in half (from 101 to 56).

No good team can benefit from Karlsson at this point. He literally went to the Penguins and made the team worse despite everyone uncharacteristically remaining healthy.

Still calling my shot, Ryan Strome.

That said, we don’t get to be in this position often. The East is ours for the taking. We have an aging captain, and flush with prospects.

Really wouldn’t be surprised if we sell high on either Cristall or Hutson.

Re Chych, he obviously loves it in DC and he will likely give us a small discount to stay, say maybe 1-2M in total contract value. That doesn't mean the two sides are close to an agreement where that small discount gets a deal done. He could be asking for 8x8.5 and the Caps could be offering 8x7, for example only. I hope he resigns but I feel confident that BMac/CP won't overpay him by any egregious amount. I don't really know what the final deal looks like, too many moving parts.

Would be shocked if they sell either, especially the latter, unless it’s for a young player with term. The cost savings you get with ELCs can’t be overstated, even with a rising cap.

For the sake of argument, let’s assume our lines if tonight was game 1 of the first round would be the following. Leonard will likely draw in, so I’d assume that pushes Frank or Raddyish out. Where else would you want to upgrade? McMike in theory could be upgraded. Eller is playing well when he’s not saddled with Vrana.

Mangiapane-Eller-Frank
Duhaime-Dowd-Raddyish
extras: Milano, Vrana

I just don’t see a ton of moves to be made. ROR makes some sense if they want to admit defeat on Eller. Could stand to improve Raddyish I think, though Leonard or Frank would fill that need. I like Mangiapane on the third line and doubt you’d find an upgrade on him available for a reasonable price.

It’s good and well to say we need to go all-in… but where? Really the only guys I see that could be upgraded are McMike, Eller, and Raddyish, and I don’t know that any of those guys really needs to be upgraded.

If it ain’t Jimi, we need a 3c. Eller is a 4c.

Ideally, we’ll find a 2c and play him 3c.
