I hate this. Lars Eller was near washed when he left us, why would he be any better now?

They're gonna trot him out for 15 minutes a night to be a blackhole offensively and be alright on the PK. It also means Lapierre is getting the boot, which I'd be alright with if they were instead playing CMM or Protas at 3C and giving someone like Miro a shot at wing.

If he doesn't work, we can trade him later in the season (I guess).

a 3rd and 5th isnt much to pay up. And we get him now and not at the deadline. Eller is safer then a random dumpster dive that would prob cost the same price.

That said I thought he was washed 4 years ago so Im not sure how much he will help.

I’m not going to say I called this but I called this. No big deal.

Solid move. Lappy has been bad all season and Lars is probably the best option to plug in as a stopgap. Also tells you they think they can compete this year. So come playoff time…

Mangiapane-Eller-Leonard
Duhaime-Dowd-Raddyish
Extras/black aces: Vrana, Milano, Miro, Lapierre

Prettyyyy, prettyyyyy, prettyyyyyy… pretty good.

You don't mess with a good thing, but on the other hand the third line is clearly sticking out as a weakness.

Not sure Eller would have been my target but I don't think he's washed up either:

He's fine. He can defend and kill penalties. I can imagine him being effective with some more skilled wingers like Vrana, Mangiapane, Milano, Lapierre, Leonard when he's called up, etc.

I think this also eases the burden on the Dowd line a bit. They done an admirable job but it wouldn't hurt to cut back their minutes some.

I also wouldn't close the door on Lapierre getting a shot at 3LW, though I think barring injuries their centers are set.

I'd try Lapierre at wing before sending him down.

And he's putting his recent numbers on a terrible team.

Tied for 5th in points on the Pens right now and still a good PKer. Seems like he turned things around there. With him centering the 3rd line it won’t need to be sheltered, which means the Ovie line can get even easier minutes to dominate. As a bonus, no worries about how he’ll fit in the locker room.

now Lappy is certain they have no confidence in him, and assume sent to the bears ?

Eller was terrible when he left us, not a fan of having another go

at least the 3rd is 2027

This works with eller being a FA at the end of the year, and a 2027 third + 2025 fifth isn't a big price to pay. Lapierre has been underperforming this season, so more time in Hershey looks appropriate.

It'll be nice to have a third line that doesn't need sheltered minutes.
