Sign Bear, ship Jensen out at the deadline for a pick. Trade for Vrana and get a pick back for taking his salary. Still plenty of cap room to retain on a soaring Mantha to acquire a high pick. Our offense is trash, worst that happens is Vrana bombs out and you bury him in Hershey. Best thing, maybe he's rejuvenated by being around the boys and regains his form. He's still only 27.
You guys talk about trading for picks like we're not in a playoff spot.

Wait for the team to implode first and enjoy the winning while you can.

It's a $775K cap-hit (even lower than his current cap hit), so it can be buried with zero cap impact. I wouldn't read anything into it being one-way.

Well the one-way starts the year Lindgren comes off the books. If Charlie continues outperforming Kuemper thru next season (big if), perhaps you trade Darcy (who would only have a 10 team No-Trade list at that point), extend Lindgren who's 4 years younger and elevate Stevenson (who's 5 years younger than Lindgren) to the backup role.

Rather than sign Bear I'd rather they see if DeAngelo could be had for a 6th or Edmundson or future considerations. Yeah yeah he's a shithead but he could singlehandedly fix the PP and Carbery has been pretty good with "problematic" players. Put him at 3RD with TVR on his offside. Of course Carolina might not want to deal in the division with a team ahead of them.

If mantha keeps this current pace up, he absolutely gets sent packing at the deadline.
He's gonna get offered like a 3rd because of his rep and he's been playing like a 1st round caliber player for us so far. Unless the floor completely falls out between now and then selling him would be seen as an insult to Ovechkin who pretty much had to be coaxed into selling last year.

Even if the team is the best in the league, they should be using any and all available cap space/retention spots to be a retention partner at the trade deadline. Cap space is very valuable this year, and there's no reason not to use it to gain assets.

Maybe the team doesn't sell mantha, but they really should consider selling Jensen if a team is interested. He hasn't been great this year.

I want the team to win as much as the next guy however, the time appears to be at hand. Time to think long term just as much as ST, if not exponentially more.

Wrt mantha, contract year, team should absolutely look to entertain any and all offers for him that might come their way. Does anyone think, regardless of how the season ends, he would resign here, for less than what he currently makes? I don’t, and I’ve seen enough of him to not want the team to take that flyer.

Torn on how to feel on this one. Oshie has not felt snake bit, just bad, but I do think Ovi started off the year kinda snake bit and now has seemed to just be meh.

Chris Johnston again saying the Caps will sign Ethan Bear. Two-year deal around $2M. Seems to me if term was the clincher then maybe he's alright with sitting. Still weird.

Lindgren the real deal? Would enjoy a fantasy combo of Ovechkin and his goalie.
If we're playing fantasy land why don't we send McMichael, Protas, Iorio, Chesley, Cristal, and Leonard too.

But no, I do not think Lindgren is the real deal yet. Pretty good, but think he's just a good back up.

Thank you. I was looking at how he beat three very good teams in VGK, LA, and NYR.

You could always just sign him for one year at a time. That way he's always in a contract year...

Two things are true:

1) There is no reason to re-sign Mantha in the summer when he has underperformed thru his time here and we could use his $5M+ of cap space elsewhere.

2) There is no need to trade him when he's #3 in goal-scoring and on a 25+ goal pace when Ovechkin seems hurt or washed and the team is struggling to score.

Think of him as a deadline addition that doesn't cost anything (or more accurately, costs whatever his trade return would be, which is likely a mid-round pick) and already has chemistry with McMichael + Protas.

I've watched the redskins draft 10-18 for a decade. Mediocrity is worse than flat out tanking. Not good enough to really do anything but not bad enough to pick high and select franchise altering players. Don't want to start that loop, just go with the flow and rebuild.

Nothing has shown we have gone off the rebuild plan. Signing Bear for 2 year maybe a buying move if that does happen.

Signing Bear is also not going to functionally cost them anything.

It's a 26 year old RD who's played up and down the lineup throughout his career. He can easily be moved in the future if need be.
